Peoria Northern

Unread post by conrailman75 »

The Peoria Northern(PN) is my fictional shortline that took over the old ATSF Peoria Branch that ran from Ancona, IL down to Peoria. In real life this line is abandoned, but in my scenario, several online businesses got together to purchase the line from the ATSF back in the early 80's. Today the Peoria Northern has trackage rights from Ancona to Streator on the BNSF to reach the small yard in Streator where the line interchanges with BNSF and NS. The PN owns 8 SD40-2's and 4 GP38-2's(all ex ATSF) and a trio of ex BN SW1500's to cover all the business. The PN's main source of traffic is grain elevators along the line and interchange traffic from Peoria(P&PU, IAIS, TPW) to the BNSF in Streator. Here is the list of towns the line runs through:
Trackage rights on BNSF Streator to Ancona(Streator is interchange with BNSF and NS)
Ancona(connects to BNSF ex ATSF mainline)
Long Point
Dana
Minonk
Benson
Roanoke
Eureka(where it connects to the TPW)
Runs TPW trackage rights from Eureka to Pekin Jct
Washington
Cooper
Crandall(where it crosses the NS Bloomington District line)
Morton(where the main yard and headquarters are located)
Groveland
Pekin(where it connects to P&PU, C&IM, and CN[IC])

The PN then has trackage rights on the P&PU into Peoria to reach UP and the IAIS. I would add this to the paper railroad group but not sure who owns the TPW or if anyone else has claimed this line. I will add more details once I figure them out.

The TPW still up for grabs, but instead of the IAIS you would be interchanging with the TSCR.
I'm just here to put in time claims and complain

The reason I mentioned the TPW is because this branch line in real life runs on part of the TPW's mainline before continuing south to Pekin and I just wanted to make sure I'm not declaring trackage rights on something else owns on here.

Okay, here are some more details about my new shortline I created:

Trains:
All run as extras without symbols and run as North-South
NB-1 interchange run from Pekin to Streator
SB-1 return train with interchange Streator to Pekin
Morton Local serves Pekin to Pekin Jct portion of the line.
Minonk Local serves from Eureka to Ancona portion of the line
Grain trains originate from elevators at:
Minonk
Groveland
Pekin
Washington
Roanoke
When grain trains originate online or off, the crews are called as GRA when handling loads and EGR when handling empties.
[note: any symbol listed is what the PN uses to call crews for their trains]

Poet Ethanol plant in Morton is a major source of traffic on the line, receiving grain from BNSF, CN, NS, TPW, and UP. Unit ethanol trains originate from here, but to avoid any time consuming motive power changes the trains use run through BNSF power for both loads and empties.

Large auto parts warehouse in Eureka shares traffic with PN and TPW

RR Donnelly at Crandall shares its traffic with PN and NS

Pekin has:
GenPak plastics
O'Reily Lumber
NorthStar Glass & Recycling
OmniSource scrap metal

Line uses GCOR rules and track warrants to get traffic across the line.
