NS Main #3 has passed inspection and is ready for trains, however, all switches are hand throw, and no signals between Odgen Dunes and La Porte, track warrent territory, slow order set at 10mph between MP 480 and 484. That NOT a good way to try to cram 100+ trains per day in. NS will have train crews that aren't on trains stationed at the crossovers and crossings to get the train through without flagging....I heard NS is giving out free lunches with Lemonade to the workers....MQT crews get the same + free doughnuts!

When can we send our trains through? They've been sitting at the junction since yesterday.

MQT main is next to cleared, but they have a ways to go. Our crews will take them for you also. However, top priority stuff, like intermodals and Amtrak will go by first, then your stuff can go. Look for some MONSTER manifests w/ extra sections getting out of GR. Holland pass has a 185 car monster that was removed from Wyoming yard to make space....we have Westbounders in every siding trying to make room inthe yard LOL

Well now we have three 130 car manifests backed up to the west but we managed to reroute the westbounds down through Toledo.

Hey DT&I, if MQT can't handle your trains right now, you can use Penn Central as a detour route and we can get your trains around the wreck site and back onto their home rails for ya!

Everything works nicely and none of your trains was delayed until this NS stack train decided to pick the Switch...which NS completely owns and maintains BTW.

Crews called at 21:00 to go and get your trains ready at Annoyance. Should be able to basically get on and go....amtraks will be by by the time these trains will be ready to go (23:00ish). All our intermodals wouldn't be anywhere out there that time of day.

The 1st MQT main is set to be opened by Midnight. MQT will clear its trains between Annoyance and Porter then get all the TSCR train through ASAP. All the other Westbound MQT stuff will be next, and once thats cleared it will be Amtrak Time, then we will switch to all Eastbounds by Porter.

Well you have to look at it from my perspective here, these trains are 3 days late now. We're getting phone calls left and right asking where their freight is. This is a complete loss of profit and we can't have that at this time so until we see fit trains will be routed over our line but the switch to yours at Michigan City will stay in place for detours.

Okay, but you could've pulled em back to K-zoo or wherever...you were free to us our main to run around your trains. What were the chances that NS would derail right on top of our switch?

Your trackage rights contract expires Dec 31st, 2013, so I'd us the 16 trains per day you are givin without an extra charge. We also volunteered to supply crews to get to Chicago, and gave them highest priority.

In short, we've done EVERYTHING we could do...and then even more on top of that. Fuel train (Diesel in tankers we use in these situations and other to refuel trains along our lines) will be headed up to your trains to top off the tank shortly. Currently working the 2nd of 3 trains between Porter and Annoyance....headed for you after #3. Top-Grade Diesel, Warm Starters, Fresh Lube----> Your locos will be happy :D

I believe we've covered your loss...NS will give you more to cover other damages.

In the future, if needed, you'd be able to traverse our connection the the CSS&SB Ry @ Annoyance as secondary detour if you elect too....

Well the problem was the 3 trains were eastbounds, we did send some power to get the westbound and ran it down through Liberty Center and west. There are just to many trains behind them to pull them back.

Well, with the chance of something happening at Porter with 100 trains per day is pretty slim: Approximately a 1 in 10,000,000 in fact (we checked the records).

Derailment UPDATE:

GREAT NEWS! We just got word from NS that MQT Main #1 will re-open in one hour at 17:00 EDT. To make DT&I happy and get his freights moving, all 4 yard jobs currently working in Wyoming and both in Holland will be tying down and will taxi out to Annoyance at 17:00. Fuel train will bypass our last train near Michigan City and go straight to the first TSCR freight, hopefully getting to all six before the crews arrive to take 'em to Chicago. The Evening Pere Marquettes will still go via PC to make as much room for freight as possible.
