Our operations department has deemed that our 5-unit fleet of GP9-3s to be excess. We are selling them on the open market. Each unit was originally a GTW GP9, all of which still feature a high short hood and the classic "torpedo tubes". Each unit was also overhauled last year with -3 grade electronics. This includes Multiple-Unit Genset Control. The units are NOT setup for Positive Train Control, as they have been running off our ATCS-based equipment, which will be removed. Each unit is currently wearing a fairly fresh coat of Marquette Rail Paint. We can patch or even fully repaint the unit for an additional cost.

We are asking $95,000 each, but are open to negotiations.

Yeah, patched?

Now the issue of getting them to you. We cross in Lansing at Trowbridge, but that connection track is lone gone, and in Holly, where that one was pulled too. Then there's South Kearsley, where we cross, but there never was a connector. For now I guess I should just route them to Chicago, and CSX will bring them over.

We should probably install a connector back into the NW quadrant at Trowbridge. Wouldn't take much time. Then you could run a daily train from Durand that could come right onto the MQT and drop cars in Ensel Yard, then return. We have about 40 cars per day that need to trade, but much of it just goes to Chicago or out east via the CP.

No patching or painting necessary.

Take them to Detroit.

Also, I will be out of contact with RRfan from tomorrow until August 4th, just a heads up.

What about that connector?

Just curious, where ya' going without da' web? Are you actually going to Mars?

I have forgotten to mention that starting the past spring, all rail pulled around the system is now being stored in Wyoming Yard. The reason: the yard will be totally reworked and rebuilt next year. It is just too small for the volume and density of traffic today. Designers are just now drawing up the plans, but it will be epic.

Thing is, the yard still needs to have function during that time. In an effort to relieve pressure, we'll likely be trying to get more classification done elsewhere, like Holland, Lansing, Plymouth, and Saginaw. Instead of the Muskegon train being built in Wyoming as a block, it will likely be built in Holland. Madness, it tell you, but the work will be the only major modification that will be needed for years to come, just like the last major rebuilding work in the 1940s by predecessor Pere Marquette.

Regarding the amount of trains going in and out of Wyoming Yard:

Recieves:
- 11 Road Freights
- 7 Locals/Transfers

Ships:
- 11 Road Freights
- 7 Locals/Transfers

Run-Thru:
- 10 Canadian Pacific Trackage Right Trains, about half need fuel
- 4 Average Number of MQT trains to run-thru. Mostly Coal & Stone, one or two might need fuel
- 4 Passenger Trains. They need a quicker way through the yard. Currently good for 25, signalling would allow 50.

Among the improvements will be an intermodal yard and stone yard separate from the classification and trim areas.

Not sure if we're going for a hump yard yet or not. Kinda hard since the yard is at about 20ft on the Grand River, a point it hit easily this spring. Would be only 1-end if we did it.

Y-GRR-EE-2-27 showed us why Wyoming Yard needs some love. They broke not one, not two, but seven rails today. 2 on 6 track, 1 on 11, and the remaining on 31. All the spots were known to be bad, and marked for replacement. All the rails were 1945 or older...some welded rail ought to help things.

There is a curfew going into effect at 21:00 in Holly for replacement of the diamond there. Work is being done by MQT, and should be complete by 4:00.

While the Ironwood Belt Railroad is constructing our new repair facilities in Owosso, we need a company to do 92 day inspections and minor repair work on our locomotives. We have EMD GP39-2s, GP40-2s, and GP50s with a total of 16 locomotives. Several have just arrived fresh from rebuild and won't need inspections done for a while. We were wondering if Marquette Rail would be interested in performing this contract work for us.

Sure, we can do that. Our shops are on break from rebuilds, so we have the stalls open. We're a 100% EMD shop, so all your power is in the hands of experts.

Thing is, we need to get the power back in forth to Grand Rapids. Running lite power is no issue, but the power will be off your road for around 48 hours each. Will you need any extra power while we have your power? We could easily forward you guys a few SD40-3s if you want.

We can do 3 units at a time. Come to think of it, on those days when the power needs to go to GR, we'll have them bring the interchange traffic right from AnnPere to GR. Temp train will be M-ANNGRR. Will run lite back when all 3 are done.

Grand Rapids is a full shop, so we can do just about anything. We have MQTX power if you guys evertually want more power, and can do any upgrades you can come up with, including MUGC.

We would be sending you one or two units at a time depending on when each locomotive needs an inspection. That way we keep enough power on the line at any given point. We are looking for some four-axle power to buy, so at some point we should be able to send you three at a time if needs be. Minor repairs are obviously less predictable, so depending on what power will be off the line at that point, we may take you up on your offer for the Rebuilt-EMD SD40-3s.

We currently have about a dozen under-utilized SD40-3s. They were rebuilt last year. The reason we got more than we needed was the anticipation of the Huron Sub becoming open to 6-axle power, which it isn't right now. Stone season ends in November, and because the Huron at least to Alpena will be okayed for 6-axles by the beginning of the stone season in March of 14, many of our GP series units will then be surplus, and replaced with SDs. You're certainly welcome to get in on purchasing them this winter when they go up for sale. 18 months after the rebuild, and well-cared for. Of yeah, and the MUGC computers too.

I had heard that you had several excess EMD GP35s that you were willing to sell to MoTown Commuter Rail back in January. Should it be that these locomotives are still for sale and that you would be willing to sell to the Ironwood Belt Railroad, we would happily pay for you to rebuild them to Rebuilt-EMD GP39Vs or GP39Es. We have a preference to Burlington Northern Railroad power, as many of our employees once worked for the BN, and we would love to have some power built to BN standards such as the Rebuilt-EMD GP39Vs and GP39Es.

Yes, you are correct. Here is what we have available for GP and SD-series EMD power:
301 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
302 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
303 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
304 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
305 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
306 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
307 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
308 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
309 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
310 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
311 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
312 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
313 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
314 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
315 GP35 ATSF (Patched)
316 GP35 ATSF (Patched)

706 SD40-2 ATSF (Patched)
707 SD40-2 ATSF (Patched)
708 SD40-2 ATSF (Patched)
709 SD40-2 ATSF (Patched)
710 SD40-2 ATSF (Patched)

We would be happy to do these rebuilds for you. But, I can also offer you several different road-slug options, such as a GP35/SW7(9)GP35 unit like our GP60-3SLGs, or even GP35/SW7(9) slugs. We'd be happy to send over a GP60-3SLG for demonstration. Anyway, we can also make these slugs from any other power you can imagine. Our mechanic drew up a SD70MAC/SD40-2/SD70MAC monster. Anyway, whatever you like. We can also install Multiple-Unit-Genset Control on any locomotives/slugs. We've had great success on MQT using the technology, and can be installed on your power as it cycles through our shop, if you like.

Now that I've run you through the catalog, what can we do for you?

Doesn't matter which of the EMD GP35s you use. If you could deliver the locomotives in primer, that would be great as well. Just send me a quote and we can finalize this.

Alright, 8 rebuilds, with MUGC. Grand Rapids is a paint shop, we can paint if you like.

60,000 apiece for the GP35s
25,000 apiece for the rebuild
5,000 parts
90,000 each Grand Total. Delivered in Primer

The mechanical department will take this week and next to finalize plans and order/start working on parts. We'll pull 8 GP35s from Ensel, and start stripping them. Estimated Completion Date for all 8: Sept. 15th.

Each unit comes with a 2-year wear + tear warranty, 10 year powertrain, MUGC. Units will be just like new, and will lead a full service life of 40 years+ without major mechanical overhaul.

Sounds good! If you could build them as close to BN standards as possible, working with the MUGC, I'd appreciate that!

Our mechanical forces have gotten prints from BNSF. It will take a little extra work, but we can do it :)
