Goodness, what sort of ships handle that many railcars? The two biggest original ships (ferries) could handle about 30 40' cars or about 22 50' cars or about 18 60' cars or about 12 86-90' cars.

We do use origional AA car ferries, #4, #5, and #7. not all cars are going to the ships. the auto racks and hi cubes are going to the yard in frankfort where they can be unloaded or sent to there destination, same with the larger flat cars. the 3 intermodal well cars in the front of the train are going to be in the small intermodal facitilty at frnakfort. most of the small box cars are going on the ferries. some grain cars will go on the ferries, others will go to frankfort then catch a local to there destination. all of the steel coil cars will go across the lake on a ferry.

The tigers game commuter trains have been a hit on the michigan line, and it has been great to see the tigers winning so much.

tigers trains are going well still, very popular with the fans, we are looking at doing these trains for the Red wings and lions games as well with the same format of service. I am going to look at building a track into the down town. I will be looking at city maps and track plans. The Idea is that It will make my gameday trains more accessable and give them faster service. there sould be enough empty lots for me to build a station

Let me know if you get a station down at Ford Field, our CEO is a Lions fan and might want to bring his business train to one of the games this year

CN is on board with the idea of having the commuter trains into down town, and the city has given us 3 options;

1) single track underground with a 2 track station
2) single track next to the road with a single track station 1 block from ford field
3) double track street running with a station 1 block from ford field and another station with 4-6 tracks near the joe

We like the 3rd option the most and will be meeting wih the city and investors this week.

option 3 has won, it will be a mix of street running and running in the median of Gratiot Ave. CN has given trackage rights to the AA over there line, so our trains will come off of the DR&EC.

The AA will own and maintain the line, DR&EC will have trackage rights and helpp fund the 2 stations, one at ford field and one at the joe. to get to the joe the line will head down randolf street and then across a parking lot, then across jefferson street to a park where we will build a 3 track station.

max speed for the street running is around 15 with new crossing lights and siginals to be installed on the entire route of street running.

the new Downtown Detroit Commuter train will start construction on monday. The city has opted to support the project, and will be funding %15 precent of the track building, and %25 precent of the station building. the AA will be funding %65 of the track building and %45 of the stations (ford field and the joe) Pending approval of the DR&EC they will be paying for %20 of the track and %30 of the stations.

the line will be build east from milwaukee junction down Brush Street a total of approx. 2 and a quarter miles to ford field. the city has given the AA 2 windows over every day to work, first shift is from 9pm to 5am, and the second window is from 10am to 3pm. The way that we are setting up to build this line is to just tear up the middle of the road and then just covering the tracks with street running. hopefully we will be able to advance between 200 and 300 yards in a day. the station will also start to be built on monday, just a simple commuter station at ford field with the Joes station will be bigger and have 3 tracks.

The AA is sending a work train down the michigan line today where it will sit until monday when the first crew will go on deuty at 10am. the train will be lead by a AA dash 8 and 2 ex SP SD50s that are in AA MOW paint. we will bring ties and the rail for the project with the city providing the cement for the street and most of the construction equiptment.

Sounds all good to me. If there's anything else we can provide to help in the building process, let us know.

our train is on your rails, could you provide an engine for the rear of the train and some maintaince guys to help out my AA workers, who will be working with some City of Detroit workers on Monday? also some high railer trucks would be helpful, most of mine are in Toledo or Owosso.

hopefully the crews can knock this out in a mounth or two... the city wants it done ASAP

Sure can. GP38-2 #116 is on it's way to cover the rear of the train. We've got 20 maintenance workers on their way, but more can be sent out if needed. 4 of our 6 Hi-Railers will be at the scene on Monday.

I can understand why they want it done quick... There's enough construction around Detroit as it is

ok have your trucks and workers report to the work site at 1000 on monday morning, and then have a second crew ready to go at 2300 on monday. work will go on until it is all done. the city of detroit is building the station at ford field and we will have to build the one near the joe

Usually they'd only work on weekends or at night. If you're gonna work for parts of the day, work for all of it

Actually go down the middle of the street and do the prep work, then get out of the way when the road is passable again (install the crossing mats, ect). Then, come back soley at night and put the track in. Then the fine-tuning to complete the crossing signals, wayside objects, ect can be finished up when ever because theyy are minimmaly invasive.

Who says? The AA and city of Detroit agreed on these times for working so that's when we're working. We know how to build street running. We worked out these hors with the city of Detroit to "work around rush hour" as they put it. When the road is open there will be no left turn lane, almost like a divided high way there will be "Michigan lefts".
