OHNR Detroit Division

Unread post by Y@ »

The Ohio Northern's Detroit division covers the former CSX (PM) from Grand Rapids (Wyoming Yard) to Plymouth (North Yard) and the original OHNR from Toledo (Sylvania Yard) to the connection at Plymouth.

Before the OHNR took over operations from Plymouth to Grand Rapids in 2008, the OHNR ran north from Toledo to Flint and Port Huron via Plymouth. The north end of the London Subdivision (Plymouth-Flint) was abandoned in 2009, shortly after the acquisition of CSX's Plymouth Subdivision. Most of the London Sub was removed north of Plymouth in 2009, and the connection to CSX was reconfigured. CSX and OHNR share North Yard in Plymouth for local switching, as 6 miles of the London Subdivision are still in place to serve several small industries. This part of the line is now known as the North Branch.

As a part of the deal, OHNR did not get the entirety of CSX's only east-west route in Michigan. Marquette Rail now operates the west end of the line from GR to Porter and on to BRC Clearing in Chicago. Interchange between the two takes place at Wyoming Yard in Grand Rapids, and they also share the yard for power servicing, train building, and local jobs. Under OHNR operation, the GR-Plymouth route is known as the Lansing Subdivision.

The OHNR bases locals H723 and H724 out of Wyoming Yard. H723 handles all industries between Grand Rapids and Lansing, while H724 works the industries in Grand Rapids as well as the interchange with the GRE at Ann Street and the MQT in Wyoming Yard. Local H737 is based in Lansing to work the interchange with CN and handle all industries in Lansing, east to Howell. The Plymouth based H762 handles everything from Plymouth to Howell, as well as the CSX interchange in North Yard.

Here's a schedule of trains on the Lansing Sub.

Daily - J376 (GR-Toledo) - Call time 04:00

Daily - J377 (Toledo-GR) - Call time 04:45

As Needed - K991 (CSX Carey-GR) - Stone train for interchange to MQT, returns empty as same symbol.

Monday-Saturday - R514 (GR-Plymouth) - Created due to problems created by large setoffs for J376 in Plymouth, also works in Lansing - Call time 11:00

Tuesday-Sunday - R515 (Plymouth-GR) - Created due to problems created by large setoffs for J377 in Plymouth, also works in Lansing - Call time 13:30

Monday-Saturday - H723 (GR-Lansing Local)

Monday-Saturday - H724 (GR Local)

Sundays As Needed - D723 (Extra GR-Lansing Local)

Monday-Saturday - H737 (Lansing-Howell Local)

Daily - H762 (Plymouth-Howell Local)

MQT operations include Z151 (GR-Chicago) and Z152 (Chicago-GR) and Z161 (Ludington-GR). All other MQT operations remain the same as they did pre-takeover.

Ah, forgot to include the numerous empty grain trains that CSX hands off in Plymouth, along with other unit trains from the OHNR system!

As Needed - G140 (CSX Plymouth-Webberville)
As Needed - G148 (CSX Toledo-Webberville)
As Needed - G150 (CSX Plymouth-GR)
As Needed - G494 (Webberville-CSX Plymouth)
As Needed - G466 (GR-CSX Plymouth)
As Needed - G482 (Webberville-CSX Toledo)

Not to mention the western coal trains MQT takes to West Olive, which usually have the X800 symbol applied. Depending on the crew situation and/or day of the week, they can run as Z151 as well.
