Ohio Northern RR - Northern Division

Unread post by Y@ »

Here's the second division of my Class I that I've completed. Included in the division are the following, also shown on this map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie ... 064209&z=7

Chicago District: Made up of the Northern Subdivision between Richton Park and South Bend, and the Michigan Subdivision between South Bend and CP Highland in Detroit. The line is double tracked with most signals being 1970's era OHNR searchlights.

Detroit District: Made up of the Shore Line Subdivision between Ironville (Toledo) and CP Highland in Detroit. The line is single tracked with sidings at Erie and Flat Rock. All signals on this line are modern tri-lights. The line was dark territory until 2000 when signals were installed due to an increase in traffic.

Toledo District: Made up of the Wheeling Subdivision between Ironville (Toledo) and BV Tower in Bellevue. The line is the original Wheeling & Lake Erie. The line is single tracked with sidings at Oak Harbor, Kingsway, Green Creek and Klines. Most signals on the line are former Wheeling searchlights.

Ashland District: Made up of the Wooster Subdivision between CP Wheeling (Bellevue) and CP Wooster, and the Massillon Subdivision between CP Wooster and MS Tower in Massillon. The line is single tracked with sidings at Peru, Clear Creek, Perry, double track between Wooster and Dalton, and another siding at Greenville. Although a signal project was done in the summer of 2009, the line still has some US&S R-2 color tri-light signals. All of the cantilevers were removed except the ones at the West End of Greenville Siding, and CP Wooster. Many intermediates are still R-2 signals.

Muncie District: Made up of the Eastern Subdivision between CP Muncie and CP Payne, the River Subdivision between CP Payne and CP Hunt in Maumee, and the Toledo Belt between CP Hunt and CP Andersons in Toledo. Trains use trackage rights on the NS between CP Andersons and CP 286 to reach the Toledo District to go to Homestead Yard, or Detroit via Ironville. The line is single tracked with sidings at Granville, Berne, Monroeville, Ney, Ridgeville, and Whitehouse, along with the yard in Maumee. All signals on the line are modern tri-lights, as the line was dark territory until a signal project in 2002.

More information is coming, including what trains use the lines and locations of interest.
