Chicago Minnesota & Southern RR

Unread post by Y@ »

Here are the details on one of my other paper railroads, the CMS.

The railroad was founded in 1970 as a competitor to the other roads between Chicago and the Twin Cities, but over time grew into a major competitor in other states like Wisconsin and Iowa.

The roster has always been primarily EMD, as the railroad is always very in touch with their employees and EMD's are liked all the way through the company.

The current roster is pretty old school, and railfans commonly flock trackside to watch the aging roster. The last new power to be purchased were the phase one SD70MAC's in 1998. Here is a run down of the roster in numerical order.

SW1200 - 200-204, 206, 210-212, 220, 223, 226-227, 234 (Number gaps show retired units)
SW1200 - 314, 320 (Former Mankato & Western)
SW1500 - 600-634
SD70MAC - 700-754

Yup, they bought the former PRR between Chicago and Lima and connect with the OBRR at Lima.

Here are three more unique CMS units.

CMS SD40-2 5202 - Last unit remaining in the experimental MNW blue-dip.

CMS SD40-2 5206 - Last unit remaining in the old MNW scheme (1974-1987).

CMS SD45 6888 - Last unit remaining in WC paint. One of four bought by MNW in 1997 before the CMS takeover in 1998.

Here is CMS 6938 wearing fresh paint. It is the only FP45 in active service on CMS. Three others are currently stored in Madison, WI.
