It was a good morning to catch the eastbound roadrailer exiting the "tunnell" west of Jewell. The location is where eastbounds leave a long stretch of track where the tree's around the main form a tunnell of sorts. The cloudy and misty conditions brought out the green as two SD40-2's led the hot train east.

The 10 miles between Wellston and Chevelle, Georgia are some of the most scenic on the entire SACR system, and the Texas Sub is also where many of the the GP units on the roster spend the majority of their time. It's not the busiest line, hosting only 6 through freights and 2 locals every day, but all of these trains run in daylight.
A mile north of Chevelle, 636 is back under way after getting a new crew and doing work in the Hector St. yard. Sporting a yet to be patched L&N emblem on it's nose, 8217 and a brother have the train working up a .9% grade.

This morning we were awakened early by scanner chatter of 636 ready to depart Chevelle, so we drove a few miles north of Wellston to record them with three Geeps up front. We would later find out that this train hit a semi just a mile north of us at Highway 190, tying the line up for several hours. The lead unit, 8215, was damaged and is currently on it's way to the shops in Savannah where it will be fixed and most likely repainted from it's current CSX YN1 scheme.

Waking up early can be a good thing. A misty morning on the SACR at Main Street in Chevelle finds northbound Z00 with a short train headed toward Savannah. This was Tuesdays 600.

Host to a major classification yard and Intermodal terminal, Jasper, AL is a major point on the GSRR map. NY Tower is the railfan gathering area, where the line to Birmingham and Tallahassee diverge from the line to Mobile. Around 50 trains per day pass through, not counting yard jobs and transfers to the NS and BNSF. In the early morning, it’s a safe bet to catch northbound 780 as it stops to work the yard.
