Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR system has not previously renumbered locomotives from several purchases into the GLOR's numbering system yet. The decision was made to renumber all locomotives from wholely owned subsidiary companies into the GLOR's numbering system effective with the summer of 2025. This will impact locomotives of the ELSR, DCR, TOLR, DTRC, and Pennsylvabia Shortlines. The only wholely owned subsidiary company this will not apply to will be the INER who will continue to maintain their current number scheme. Several other partially owned systems will also retain their current numbering system.
In addition, the Anacostia Holdings purchased locmotives will also be renumbered into the GLOR's numbering system.
The following units will be rostered with history if known

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There has been an additional purchase by the GLOR management. Previously the GLOR owned 51% of Keokuk Junction Railway. The GLOR management has purchased the additional 49% of the railway, and pending STB approval will merge the line into the GLOR's operations.
The line will form a western extension of the line from Peoria to Keokuk, IA. The line is not expected to see any significant changes in the short term, although once upgrades are completed on the line it is possible that the GLOR and BNSF may begin routing some traffic away from the yard in East Peoria and to Keokuk.
There is also the possiblity that the GLOR / KJRY will assume switching operations on the BNSF's Switching operations on the spur lines in Keokuk. The discussion is ongoing, but it does appear that there is traction towards this happening. This would allow BNSF crews to focus solely on operations of the the through freights, while allowing operation of local switching to be done by the GLOR / KJRY. The agreement is expected to include stipulations regarding the transfer of traffic between the BNSF and KJRY/GLOR similar to the agreement regarding the ELSR's operations of lines in Michigan's UP and northern Wisconsin.
Renumber of the KJRY locomotive fleet is expected and it does appear that some of the KJRY's locomotives will be removed from service and replaced with other locomotives from the GLOR roster.

The exact operations of the KJRY are still slightly up in the air as a portion of what happens with the line will depend on if BNSF and the GLOR reach and agreement for the Keokuk industrial spur operations. This looks like it will be an agreement made soon, so the GLOR is planning on updating the operating plan to include operation of that line. As part of the agreement for taking over service in Keokuk, the GLOR would also take over switching control of Keokuk Union Depot (KUD) Yard, which they actually own. BNSF would still originate two trains from KUD Yard, although it is possible both trains would begin originating in Fort Madison.
R-HLA839 - Keokuk to Fort Madison Turn
M-KEOGAL - Keokuk to Galesburg
The expected additions to the train symbols list will be.
KUK-1 - Switches local industries in Keokuk as needed on the 1st shift. Will also switch the yards in Keokuk.
KUK-2 - Switched local industries in Keokuk as needed on the 2nd shift. Will also switch the yards in Keokuk.
KUK-3 - Switches local industries in Keokuk as needed on the 3rd shift, Will also switch the yards in Keokuk.
The KUK's will provide the current 24/7/365 service to the local customers mainly Roquette's wet corn mill.
Additionally the railroad is planning on operating
KUKL - Keokuk to LaHarpe and return train. This unit will run car transfer between Keokuk and LaHarpe and service all customers on the line.
LAH-1 - LaHarpe Switcher - Will switch the Local grain elevator as needed as well as working the car and locomotive shops in LaHarpe. Infrquently used train symbol as most traffic switching will be done by KUKL and MAPW
MAPW - Mapleton West Local - Works from Mapleton West to LaHarpe and return.
MAPE - Works from Mapleton to Peopia and East Peoria. Works small Mapleton "Yard"
MAPW and MAPE will likely be transfered to the one of the GLOR's Yards in Peoria or East Peoria upon renovation of the line.
The purchase of the Keokuk Junction will require extensive renovations for the line to become what the GLOR management would like to see, a westerly outlet for traffic from the GLOR to BNSF. Currently the line is mostly 10 mph limit track and the GLOR management hopes the line will be renovated over the next 4 years to be all 25mph track.
The final potential phase of the renovation project will be rebuilding the line from LaHarpe to Lomax where it connects to BNSF and which KJRY currently has unused trackage rights to Fort Madison. This would require extensive rebuilding as the line has been OOS and used for car storage for nearly 20 years.
Further updates will be made available when the STB makes a decision on the purchase.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR's complete train symbol and operating plan will be coming out over the next few days / weeks. This is a large document which needs to be updated. It will also include the operations of the subsidairy railroads as well. Several chnges have been implemented over the past year which haven't always been updated.
Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
I am in the process of working through the operating plan and the train symbols for use on the railroad. This is a large railroad and trying to develop the system plan / operational plan is a time consuming process.
My current plan is to update.
1) Roster - should be posted as soon as I can format it into a usable form.
2) Train Symbols - This is the current GLOR project.
4) Status of ongoing projects and agreements
3) Divisions / Subdivisions Listing
4) Customers List
5) Railroad full system map.
I haven't had much time to work on the map the last several months. Given this is a Class 1 railroad there is a lot of lines to be traced on the map, so it is a time consuming process.
I will continue to update new developments on the railroad as soon as they happen, so I can get them posted.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
As part of the merger details allowing the GLOR to merge with the W&LE, the LSRC was allowed to have trackage rights over the GLOR from Bay City to Toledo. These rights were exercised a few months ago, and recently new traffic was seen on the trackage rights trains. LSRC recently rebuilt and reopened the Alabaster Branch. The first loads from the Alabaster Branch went south from the mines to the US Gypsum plant in Gypsum, OH recently. LSRC's trackage rights trains, LSR1 / LSR2, ran from Bay City to Durand and then Durand to Toledo (and return). Among the cars were several loads of gypsum which were handed off to NS in Toledo (Evans Yard).
The LSRC is currently running only 1 of their trackage rights trains currently, LSR1 which is the Bay City to Toledo run. While they operated a couple trains from Bay City to Blue Island, that was confirmed to just be to designed to qualify crews to run if they so desire to eventually use the trackage rights. Currently all westbound LSRC handled is being handled by either CSX or GLOR trains.
LSR1 / LSR2 currently runs 3 days per week each direction. LSR1 runs southbound and runs on M-W-F while LSR2 is a Tu-Th-Sa return trip. All variations of the LSRC power have been witnessed on the trains, including the SD70M's and the GP40M-3/GP40-2 road slug combos.
The current operation of LSR1 / LSR2 sees the LSRC trains run south to Evans Yard, drop their outbound train for NS in the yard, run lite power back to Erie, Lang or Ottawa Yards, before tying down. The northbound run is light power from wherever the GLOR had them tie down (normally Lang) to Evans Yard then run north to Bay City via Durand. Normally the trains will require a crew change enroute or a second, which normally is completed in Osmer Yard.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR will be making some changes on the Muskegon Division in the coming months. Since the line from Muskegon to West Olive became part of the GLOR, the railroad has been using North Yard as the main yard while Henry Street Yard (Former GT Yard), has been left as a car storage yard.
This will be changing due in part to the operations from Muskegon.
Currently the GLOR runs several trains out of Muskegon on a regular basis.
DMUS and MUSD which are Muskegon and Durand road freights, with pick ups and set outs as needed in Owosso, Lowell, and Grand Rapids.
MUS1 is the local running between Muskegon and Grand Rapids, several multiple customers. MUS1 also serves the line between Muskegon and Fremont.
MUS2 serves as the local for industries in Muskegon and south of Muskegon to Holland. MUS2 also serves as the yard switcher in Muskegon.
Currently, running MUSD and DMUS from North Yard is a PITA for crews. Crews running these trains have to run from North Yard, around the connector to Henry Street Yard, pull into Henry Street Yard, then run around their train before heading east to Grand Rapids, crossing back over the line to Holland at Park Street Diamond.
The change to having Henry Street be the primary yard will allow these trains to depart directly from Muskegon without having to make the directional adjustments.
Henry Street Yard currently only has 3 tracks in place, however MOW crews are reinstalling the long removed 4th track on the south end of the yard, as well as installing 3 stub tracks on the west end of the yard to be used as a transload for an undisclosed customer.
The status of the engine shop is still TBD, as previous reports had it becoming a car repair shop for the railroad.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There are several undermentioned operations on the GLOR. One of these is the operations of the stone trains. One of these stone trains is what NS calls 62F, which runs through Indiana to Elkhart before running with NS power up to Kalamazoo. This train operates 1-2 times per week on average during the summer months. Several other stone trains operate around the system including in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
More details on this trains will be coming once the new train symbols list is finalized.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR is working on a joing venture which would consolidate operations within Carey, OH. Currently two companies operate stone pits in Carey, StoneCo and National Lime and Stone. Each of these operate their own in facility railroad. Two railroads, CSX and the GLOR (Ex-WLE) operate into Carey. The joing venture, the Carey Stone Service Company (CSSC) would consolidate the operations into one railroad at the facilities. That company would also build outbound trains for both CSX and the WLE.
The exact power to be used by the railroads is still TBD, however both facilities are expected to sell their power to the CSSC for use, possibly supplements by locomotives from CSX and the GLOR.
In addition, the GLOR is taking over switching operations from National Lime and Stone in several other facilities. Bucyrus, OH and Akron, OH both currently have their own power providing service, however the GLOR will be taking over switching these facilities as the GLOR already provides service to them.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There is another GLOR operation that isn't often covered. This is the GLOR's Fremont to Hamilton section in west Michigan.
The GLOR has recently moved their base of operations from North Yard in Muskegon to Henry Street Yard. This was done to faciliate an easier operation leaving Muksegon for points east.
The GLOR currently serves only a couple customers on the line south of Muskegon to West Olive where CSX still controls the line from West Olive to Holland. The GLOR also operates the Hamilton Branch from Waverly Yard to Hamilton.
The GLOR operates two locals daily in and around Muskegon, plus the as needed service on the Hamilton Branch.
MUS1 operates as a local between Muksegon and Grand Rapids, serving the customers along the line. MUS1 will also service the freight customers on the Coopersville and Marne portion of the railroad. (C&M leases freight operations to the GLOR, but maintains ownership of the line and passenger operations). MUS1 also provides the service north of Muksegon to Fremont, which is as needed service.
MUS2 will operate as the local servicing the customers in Muskegon proper, as well as operating south of Muksegon. The farthest current customer south is in Ferrysburg where two customers get service. Johnston Boiler and Verplank both get as needed service. MUS2 will also serve as the yard switcher for Muskegon, breaking down and building the cars for the road freights to and from Durand.
The facilitate the service from Muskegon to Ferrysburg, the siding in Grand Haven was rehabiliated. This allows the crew to run around the train prior to servicing Verplank, which needs to be serviced going NB.
The service to Ferrysburg is very much as needed.
A lesser known operation on the line is the tourist railroad operated by the GLOR. The Michigan Lakeshore Train runs from Grand Haven to West Olive and return. Service is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The railroad normally uses one of the old first generation GP's although any GLOR power can be used. The train is normally kept in Muskegon and brought south only for operational days. The operation maintains a small office in the former Grand Haven depot, which has been transformed into a mixed use facility.
Normal trains operate with 1 locomotive, 3 cars, and a 2nd locomotive. Train schedules are 6pm on Friday, 10 am and 4 pm on Saturdays and 1 pm on Sundays. The trip normally takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
Special trips can also occur going from Grand Haven to Muskegon and occassionally the entire length of the line to Fremont.
A couple additional customers may be getting service in the future in and around Grand Haven as well. Further discussions are ongoing about these potential customers.
The only other customer south of Muskegon is Bay Logistics which has a very on again off again relationship with the GLOR.
North of Muskegon the railroad services Marathon's Muskegon Terminal (fuel additives), a tank farm, will be serving the Cytiva facility, a sand transload, Keystone Cooperative-Fremont, and Gerber.
The customers in Muskegon itself are Cole's Quality Baking (on remaining portion of Sappi Line), Mart Dock, Padnos (Muskegon), Webb Chemical, CWC Textron (maybe, this has been a long rumor but never fully developed idea), Cannon-Muksegon, Paramelt, and the soon to be developed transload at Henry St Yard.
There may also be a transload developed at North Yard as it will become more open given the operational changes.
A few other potential customers have had preliminary discussions about relocating to Muskegon given the current politcal climate, but those discussions are a long way from finalized.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR, and their subsidiary railroads will be painting several units in honor of the United States of America turning 250 years old in 2026. The exact units to be repainted have not been determined. The number of units to be repainted also has not been announced, although it is expected that most if not all of the subsidairy railroads will have a unit repainted.
The paint schemes will be released at a later date.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR is going to get very busy around Cadillac this week. The Manistee River Bridge has been reopened after a 7 week down time. Waiting in the wings across the system are a large number of cars for both the GLOR's customers north of the bridge, as well as the TC Southern. The GLOR has been accepting cars from partner railroads for stations north of the birdge since last Monday. It is estimated that there are over 200 cars, loaded and empty ready to be sent north. The cars had been stored in Grand Rapdis, Durand, Owosso and Toledo awaiting clearance to run cars to Cadillac. As a result the GLOR will be running an extra run of TCAD on Tuesday 7-1-2025 as well as run an extra ECAD to bring cars north on 7-1-2025. CP and CPX both ran Monday to collect cars from north of the bridge. They returned south with over 100 cars. while taking about 50 cars northbound, many cars destined for scrap at Beacon in TC. It is estimated that the GLOR will be running an extra switching crew in Cadillac to help break down these arrivals and build the outbound trains for the next week to 10 days.
The GLOR had kept several units north of the bridge to provide switching services to customers who had recieved large quantities of supplies before the bridge shutdown. The units north of the birdge during the shutdown were GP38-3's 2008 and 2009, SD35's 701 and 705 adn TCSR units GP35-2 387, GP35M-3 395 and SW1200 34.
All untis were used as needed by the railroad to provide as needed service to customers. Last Friday all cars for Cadillac had been stationed at Walton Jct to head southbound.
The first train to head south was CP, with 2008, 2009, and 701 as power. This train contained 16 gondola of scrap from TC as well as 62 tank cars (mostly empty) from multiple customers.
Train CPX soon followed with 705, TCSR 395 and TCSR 387 leading 48 cars south. These included mostly empty cars of supplies for customers including fly ash cars, empty gondolas, several boxcars, covered hoppers and empty tank cars.
