After the issues around Cadillac with the derailment, the GLOR has decided to make a change to the operations north of Cadillac, on a temporary trial basis.
Train CP, the Cadillac to Petoskey train, has always been based out of Cadillac. They will be changing effective 1-20-2025.
The GLOR will be basing this train at Walton Jct. From Walton Junction they will run north to Petoskey, then return to Walton Jct, organize their train for the run to Cadillac. In Cadillac they swap their outbound cars with the inbounds and return to Walton Jct, This was done to clear space within Cadillac as well as create a smoother interchange process with the TCSR at Walton Jct. There will not be an engine house built, but the crews who run the CP train both live closer to Walton Jct than Cadillac so they would prefer this switch. As an employee focused company, the railroad tried looking out for its employees when they can. :>

The GLOR will be making an additional locomotive purchase agreement, this time with the Minnesota Commercial Railroad. The railroad currently owns the last two RS27 locomotives, which have been out of service for a couple years. The GLOR, known for purchasing and rostering old Alco's will be purchasing a total of 6 locomotives from the Minnesota Commercial. The purchase will include:

The GLOR, and several customers are now caught up in the political strife between the USA and Canada. Several products produced by facilities on the GLOR or subsidiary lines are now subject to Canadian tariffs which will likely impact the production and sale of said items to customers in Canada. In addition, the imposition of the tariffs by the USA on Canadian and Mexican products looks to have a substantial impact on GLOR's customers receiving products from those counties. Time will tell what the impact on the GLOR and its subsidiary customers will be, however the GLOR has already taken steps to mitigate the potential financial impact of the decisions.

The tariffs have temporarily been suspended for 30 days, however many customers, as well as the GLOR are still preparing for this to be a long, drawn out trade war. The exact impact of the current US and Canadian Governmental Administrations actions will not be known for months and years down the road, so business that deal either directly or indirectly across the border are having to prepare for thr worst possible circumstances with the hope that it is just hot air coming from the leadership.
One project that does seem to be in the crosshairs for problems will be the energy plant on the GLOR's ELSR. This was partially funded by Federal Clean Energy funds, and those are not priorities for the current administration. It will also be a potentially problematic issue for the TAWRE facility, as their latest expansion is partially funded by federal funds and they also get a federal operations grant to assist with the recycling and polution control aspects of the facility. As of today TAWRE has not seen any direct impact from the political strife, but time will tell what will happen.
