Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There has been another line leased by the GLOR in the Canton, Ohio area.
While many other lines have been in the news, quietly the Republic Shortline, which is owned by Massillon Logistics, will be leased by the GLOR to a period of 20 years, beginning on January 1st, 2025, or when final approval is granted.
The line will interchange with the GLOR's purchased RJ Corman Cleveland Line and NS in Massillon, Oh. The line, which measures 3.5 miles in length, will be integreated into the GLOR's system upon the approval.
The current plan is that the two locomotives will be renumbered and repainted into the GLOR's scheme.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
GLOR will also be taking over operations of another rail line. The Amtrak Line, west of Kalamazoo was once serviced by NS out of Kalamazoo. Service changed and NS has been operating the line with train B05 out of Burns Harbor, IN on an as needed basis.
GLOR will assume operations of this line on 1-1-2025 based in Kalamazoo and operating as far as Buchannan, but with official trackage rights to the Michigan-Indiana State Line.
The exact operational schedule has not yet been determined, but the scheduling will need to be developed to avoid interference to the Amtrak operations on the line.
The train symbol for this operation will be KZ-5.
NS will continue to provide unit train operations to Cargill from Burns Harbor on an as needed basis.
Power on the line will be selected from the ITCS equiped locomotives on the GLOR's roster.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
STB Announcement Regarding the Merger of the GLOR, TP&W, IMRR, ISRR, CERA, and TZPR as well as the merger of the GLOR, RJ Corman Western Ohio and Cleveland Lines, W&LE, ASRY, CCRL, CHB, CWRO, NSR, SWP, NTRY, ABC and AVR.
The STB has announced approvals with multiple stipulations to the above mentioned mergers.
In regards to the GLOR's merger with the G&W lines in Indiana and Illinois has been approved with the following stipulations.
The GLOR agrees to grant trackage rights to LRSC from Saginaw, Michigan to Liberty Center, OH, via the GLOR owned Western Ohio Railroad, to Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The GLOR will grant LSRC trackage rights from Fort Wayne, IN to Peroria, IL (via GLOR trackage rights over NS).
The GLOR will grant LSRC trackage rights from Forth Wayne, IN to IHB's Blue Island Yard (agreed to by IHB).
Should the GLOR complete their purchase of Anacostia Holdings, GLOR will also grant trackage rights to LSRC between Fort Wayne and BRC's Clearing Yard (using previously established trackage rights for the CSS and via the GLOR owned RAN).
GLOR will grant LSRC trackage rights between Bay City, Michigan and Toledo, OH (Ottawa / Erie / Lang Yards) to interchange with NS / GLOR.
LSRC is not required to establish trains immediately upon issuance of this order, however GLOR can not deny LSRC's ability to use their established trackage rights.
GLOR will be subject to an enhanced customer and interchange partner oversite to all aspects of rail operations of the merged lines for a period of 10 years.
The STB approves the GLOR's request for trackage rights between Fort Wayne, IN and Logansport, IN, with the allowance that LSRC also be provided as per the stipulation stated above.
As part of the agreement, GLOR also will be required to enhance signal systems across the entire system in 5 phases, to be completed in a 10 year period as approved by the STB and FRA.
In regards to the merger of the GLOR et all in Ohio and Pennsyvlvania.
The GLOR will grant Genessee and Wyoming's Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad trackage rights between the connection with the AVR in Gibsonia and the connection with the OHCR / CUOH in Brewster.
The GLOR will grant OHCR / CUOH trackage rights between Brewster and Cleveland Ohio (CWOR and NSR lines, as well as CSX and NS interchanges).
The GLOR will grant CN trackage rights between Lang Yard (Toledo, OH) and Pittsburgh, PA.
GLOR will agree to a 10 year oversite period for customer and connecting railroad complaints.
GLOR will agree to enhance signal system safety over the entire GLOR system in 5 phases over the upcoming 10 year period, as approved by the FRA and STB.
Both mergers will also required that all current interchange locations be maintained unless approval is granted by the originating and terminating customer and the interchange partner railroads. This stipulation does not prevent bidding for transportation contracts which are due for renewal over the course of the 10 year oversite period.
The effective date of this notice SHALL BE 1-1-2025.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Upon the integration of the merged lines, the GLOR will indeed become a Class 1 Railroad, complete with all of the additional requirements in place for a Class 1 carrier. GLOR will be the smallest Class 1 carrier in North America, while below the side of the closest competitors.
The GLOR still considers itself a conglomeration of short line railroads and still, despite being a Class 1 railroad, intends to operate in such a manner with a customer service first approach.
The biggest issue the GLOR may face in the future is from a labor relations standpoint. While all non-managerial employees of the GLOR are union members, there has already been concerns raised about the relationship between the GLOR and their unions compared with the other Class 1's relationships with their unions. All current union contracts with the GLOR and their employees (as well as lines spun off from the GLOR to subsidiary companies) run through the end of the year 2025. All contracts will be opened for negotiation beginning on 7-1-2025 as per the terms of the exisiting contracts.
GLOR considers itself very employee friendly and intends to say that way even through the current expansion.
With that said, as the railroads are integrated into a more cohesive system, it is inevitable that some changes will be required, and some positions will be eliminated. Ma ny of these will be in the maintainance departments, as there will, at some point need to be consolidation of services. The GLOR's main locomotive maintainance facility is in Lima OH, howver several other railroads involved in the previous mergers also have facilities to maintain equipment, such as, but not limited to Owosso on the Northern Division, Bay City on the Saginaw Bay Division, and Brewster on the W&LE (Lake Erie Division). It is unlikely any of these facilities will be closed, and they may actually see additional work as the GLOR embarks on a substantial rebuilding program of their SD40-2 line of locomotives, which will now include over well over 100 units, many of which have not been rebuilt since their left the factory.
It is expected that the Lima shops will remain the primary heavy work location for the rebuild program, but other shop locoations will take a larger role in regular mainaintance, painting, and lighter repair projects.
There will be an updated train symbols list coming within the next few weeks for all railroads on the GLOR system.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
GLOR Management has announced several changes as a result of the addition of the Wheeling and Lake Erie and G&W Illinois and Indiana lines to the railroad.
The GLOR will be insituting several system length trains operating across the system effetive 1-1-2025. These trains will connect the eastern and western and eastern and northern terminus points of the railroad.
COBI- Connellsville (CSX Yard) to Blue Island (IHB) yard. This train will pick up and set out traffic at the following locations enroute: Rook Yard, Brewster, Spencer and Lima.
BICO- Blue Island (IHB) to Connellsville (CSX) . This train will operate the opposite direction and pick up and set out in Lima, Spencer, Brewster and Rook Yard.
COPE- Connellsville (CSX Yard) to Peoria. This train will pick up and set out traffic at the following locations enroute: Rook Yard, Brewster, Spencer and Lima, Fort Wayne, and Logansport.
PECO- Peoria to Connellsville. This trains will pick up and set out traffic at the following locations. Logansport, Fort Wayne, Lima, Spencer, Brewster and Rook Yard.
The trains will run on the following schedule
COBI will operate M-W-F
BICO will operate Tu-Th-Sa
COPE will operate Tu-Th-Sa
PECO will operate M-W-F.
In addition, the GLOR will be instituting trains from the railroads northern classification yards, Durand and Toledo, to Connellsville and Peoria as well.
DUBI- Durand to Blue Island - Trains will pick up and set off traffic at Ottawa Yard (Toledo), Delta, Lima, and Fort Wayne.
BIDU- Blue Island to Durand - Trains will pick up and ser off traffic at Fort Wayne, Lima, Delta and Ottawa Yard.
CODU- Connellsville (CSX) to Durand - Trains will pick up and set off traffic at Rook Yard, Brewster, Canton, Akron, Spencer, Erie Yard (Toledo)
DUCO- Durand to Connellsville (CSX) - Trains will pick up and set off traffic at Erie Yard, Spenser, Akron, Canton, Brewster and Rook Yard.
DUBI will operate Su-Tu-Th
BIDU will operate M-W-F
CODU will operate Su-Tu-Th
DUCO will operate M-W-F
DUBI / BIDU will also handle LSRC traffic in the event LSRC does not excerise the use of their trackage rights from Saginaw. GLOR management has been in discussions with LSRC about LSRC's intentions and operational plan for the newly acquired trackage rights. It is expected, that for the near term, GLOR and LSRC will agree to a hualage agreement for this traffic, rather than LSRC exercising thier trackage rights.
GLOR will continue to run several trains which are also cover the same routes, such as the current 617 and 618 trains between Rook Yard and Connellsville will continue to operate on a daily basis and the FWBI and BIFW trains which will run between Blue Island and Fort Wayne.
While not being established in the near term, the possibility does exist GLOR will insitute trains between Grand Rapids and Connellsville and Grand Rapids and Peoria in the future. At this time, the traffic can be handled by existing trains or the newly added routes.
For example, traffic running from Grand Rapids to Peoria would run Grand Rapids to Durand, be placed on DUBI in Durand and set off in Fort Wayne, where train COPE (or a Fort Wayne to Peoria train) would forward the traffic to Peoria for interchange.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
GLOR management has made the decision to lease another railroad line, as well as purchasing a line.
The GLOR will purchase the Northern Ohio and Western Railroad from OmniTrax and lease the CSX Carrouthers Secondary from CSX. GLOR will lease the Carrouthers Secondary from Union St in Walbridge to Woodville, and will be the designated operator for the Sandusky Seneca Tiffin Port Authority from Tiffin to Woodville.
As part of this deal, the GLOR will also be granted trackage rights from Union St in Walbridge into Stanley Yard.
Upon approval of this transaction, the GLOR will then immediately spin off the line to the a wholey owned subsidiary company, Toledo and Tiffin Railroad (TAT). OmniTrax will retain ownership of the locmotives currently servicing the line, which will be shipped offline upon the GLOR's takeover.
The GLOR will tentively plan on having 4 locomotives stationed on the line and will operate two trains on the line.
Train TIMG - Tiffin to Maple Grove, will operate from Tiffin to Maple Grove and Return,
Train MGST - Maple Grove to Stanley will operate from Maple Grove to Stanley Yard to interchange with CSX.
Maple Grove Yard will serve as the interchange point between NS and TAT, while TAT will run over CSX from Union St into Stanley Yard and from Tiffin Jct to Keller siding, west of Tiffin to interchange cars with CSX on the south end of the railroad.
The following customers will be served by the GLOR / TAT.
Ameriwood Industries Tiffin Furniture Manufacturer Bulkhead Flatcars/Boxcars
Laminate Technologies Tiffin Laminated Panel Manufacturer Boxcars
Carmeuse Lime Maple Grove Lime & Stone Products Covered Hoppers
MGQ Asphalt Terminal Maple Grove Asphalt Supplier Tank Cars
Carmeuse Lime Millersville Lime & Stone Products Covered Hoppers
Area Aggregates Woodville Lime and Stone Products Open Hoppers
Martin Marietta Lime and Stone Woodville Lime and Stone products Covered Hoppers.
In addition, GLOR/TAT will take over the switching operations as the contract switcher for the Maple Grove Stone Complex Operations. This operation will be run as the Maple Grove Terminal Railroad (MGT), and will have two locomotives sold to it by the GLOR.
MGT will interchange cars with the GLOR / TAT and NS at Maple Grove, and will utilize trackage rights over NS from the industrial property east to the new Maple Grove Yard, east of the complex where the interchange between TAT / NS and MGT will occur.
Finally, GLOR will also take over switching operations of the Martin Marietta Lime and Stone Complex in Woodville, OH. This operation will be known as the Woodville Terminal Company (WTC), which will again be a subsidiary of the GLOR. The locomotive to be used has not been determined, but it will also ba a transfer from the GLOR roster.
All of these transactions are expected to be approved with an operational start date on 4-1-2025.
One additional bit of information, as part of the lease agreement with CSX, GLOR / TAT will also have an option to lease the line from Stoney Ridge, OH north to the I-80 bridge with trackage rights through Stanley Yard. The GLOR / TAT will begin attempting to market the line to potential customers and if the GLOR's efforts are successful, they will begin rehabilitating the line for service.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
GLOR Management has made the decision to spin off two additional lines from the core GLOR system, and is in discussions with a Class 1 partner to reinstall a connection which has long since been removed.
The first of these lines to be spun off is the Greenfield Subdivision, which will become the Greenfield Midland Railway (GMRW). This line, which will run between the City of Greenfield to Midland, Ohio where it will connect to the GLOR's Columbus Division.
The second of these lines will also be in Ohio, and will be the Washington Court House Terminal Railroad (WCHT). This railroad will operate Fayne Industrial Track in Washington Court House, Ohio. It will interchange with the GLOR Southern Division (DT&I Subdivision) and Columbus Division (Midland Subdivision), in Washington Court House.
While these two lines will be operated as distinct railroad, the companies will employee the same crews and will work both railroad lines.
The GLOR will be sending locomotives to each railroad upon approval of this transaction. The transaction will become effective on 4-1-2025 or when approved by the STB.
The reinstalled connection will be at the north end of the GLOR's Springfield, Bellefontaine and Mechanisburg (SBMR) in Bellfountaine, OH. This connection will connect the SBR to CSX Indianapolis Line Subdivision. This connection will be used primarily for unit trains from the combined Heritage Cooperative locations on the SBMR, as well as trains from the Urbana Materials location which opened recently in Urbana. The opening of this connection will allow trains from the SBMR, as well as GLOR trains a more direct connection to CSX rather than having to run to Lima or Columbus. The rehabilitation of the line will begin in early 2025 and is expected to take approximately 6 months, at which time the connection to CSX will be installed.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Due to changes in the political landscape around the county, a couple renewed industris as possibly looking at opening in the vacinity to the GLOR's rail lines in the next few years.
The panhandle of West Virginia still maintains a huge deposit of clay, which to this day remains largely unmined. Several companies have approched the Wheeling and Lake Erie previously about locating a brick manufacturing facility near their mainline. While at this time there is no definitate proposal at this time, there are applications for multiple mine locations in the region, including several in the vainicty of rail lines.
GLOR management is looking at how they can best support the potential new industry.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There has been an update on the Northern Division trackage around Cadillac. As had been previously discussed, MDOT and the GLOR were looking at making a purchase for a plat of land along Wright Street in Cadillac. The property has been purchased and the permits for the demolition of the house at 416 Wright Street have been approved. The permits for the road crossing of Wright Street are awaiting approval at this time.
The purchase of this property will allow the GLOR to route trains directly into North Yard, rathern than having to pull them into the west and back into the yard. This will streamline the Cadillac operations by allowing trains to work directly from north yard.
The connection is expected to be operational by the late Spring of 2025.
In addition, GLOR has picked up another customer in Cadillac. AAR Mobility Systems has requested a spur be built off the GLOR mainline into their facility on Hayes St. The company is anticipating receiving inbound supplies for their line of mobility equipment for military use around the work. The plant is not expected to ship outbound product, but will be expected to get inbound shipments of aluminum and steel for a protect they have coming up in 2025 and 2026.
There are a couple other potential additional customers for the line as well. In Farwell, Melling has contacted the GLOR about providing access to the national rail system for inbound steel tubing. While it appears building a siding across Grace St in Farwell would be cost prohibitive, it is strongly being considered to build a team track alongside the GLOR mainline across Grace Street from the Melling Plant, which would allow Melling, as well as other potential customers in the area not currently serviced by rail to access the rail system.
In Clare, the new transload by the industrial park has nearly completed grading and laying of track, as well as building of 2 on site storage tanks will begin in the spring.
In Rosebush, Star of the West is considering expanding their facility with at least 1, if not 2 new storage bins.
In Alma, Builders First Source, which has been an infrequent customer for several years, has indicated it may be entering into a contract which would over double the number of carloads inbound cars to the facility from about 1 per month to 2-3 per month.
Outside Ithaca, GLOR has been in contact with a dairy farm, which is looking at expanding its operation. The farm, which is approximately 5000 feet east of the GLOR's mainline, is looking at possibly getting inbound feed and shipping manure outbound for processing. No official agreements have been reached, but if the railroad does start shipping manure from this facility, it would be a little ironic that the place is located on Crapo Rd.
In Owosso, Sunoco Protective Solutions, just south of Cargil's Animal Feed Plant, has expressed interesting in possibily building a spur to their facility. They would be getting specially formulated inbound recycled paper for use in their product protection packaging. This would actually be the rebuilding of a long removed spur that ran alongside the west side of the building they now occupy. Some ties are still present in the weeds and brush, however these are likely going to be scrapped and sold off and all new ties will be installed.
Also, in Owosso, there has been movement regarding the GLOR building a new connection track between the Muskegon Division tracks and the Northern Division tracks. This connection would come off the Northern Division near Chipman St and connect to the northern track of the double track near Cedar St. In addition, the double track would be extend approximately 400 feet before connecting to the single track Muskegon Division. This would be done to smooth the flow of through trains going through Owosso, which currently have to pull through the shops area in Owosso, thus not requiring the lengthy crossing delays on M-71.
Finally in Owosso, the City of Owosso has decided to get into the railroad action as well. They will be building a spur off the Muskegon Division line into their property for the delivery or road salt and checmial deicer.
In Vernon, Glasser Lumber, which will get cars about twice per year has agreed to fund the majority of the rebuilding of the bridge to access their facility. GLOR management is happy with this, as it likely means they will continue to be an infrequent customer into the future. The bridge has been rated poor on recent inspections and is in need of replacement.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
South of Durand on the GLOR not a lot has changed for the Northern Division. The expansion done awhile back at Durand has made switching easier, however the yard still sees a lot of traffic, which has been leading to continued congestion of the yard, even with the switching of several trains from locals to through trains.
GLOR is actually considering redirecting some of the traffic on the line away from Durand and to Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor to Toledo, or running some traffic to NS in Elkhart which would have done to Toledo originally.
Durand Feed and Grain, which has been a very on again off again customer, has recently completed an expansion which included a new rail spur connection to the outside yard tracks. This will allow switching of the plant without having to block the Oak St. Crossing. While not a big customer, they do receive multiple car lots when they are using rail shipments.
The plans for new connection on the NW quadrant of the wye in Durand have stalled, as have the plans for the extended connection to the mainline east of the diamond. The holdup appears to be discussions about who will be paying for the projects.
The reconstruction of the Pitt Jct connection is well into the planning stages, and should be completed by the early summer period in 2025. This will extend the Holly Subdivision siding into a connection to the GLOR mainline, while maintaining the switch to the Holly Sub as well. This will allow two trains to pass on this section of track and will eliminate the need for trains on the GLOR to stop short of Pitt Jct while waiting for access to Durand.
Cohoctah Elevator also continues to be an on again off again customer. They did however expand their fertilizer business and are planning two new silos for the grain handling business in the Spring-Summer of 2025, which means they might be increasing rail service to their facility.
In northern Livingston County, GLOR management has been looking at extending the length of the siding south of the Oak Grove Road crossing. The plan will include extending the siding 1.67 miles and will include crossovers approximately half way through the siding. This will be used for passing trains, as well as staging cars for unit train customers and short term car storage.
In Howell, another on again off again customer has been on again recently. Zenith Global has been steadily getting 1-2 carloads of plastic pellets each month and about once every three months have been shipping out a loaded boxcar as well. This appears to be for a specific customer project they are contracted with. Also in Howell, the finishing touches are being completed on the Padnos trackage, although no traffic has, as of yet, been delivered to the location.
Interchange with CSX is a small fraction of what it once was. Much of the interchange, which at one time was very significant, was moved to Toledo due to issue with traffic in Howell. Very few manifest cars now get interchanged AnnPere with the majority of current interchanging being unit grain trains.
GLOR did have a 1 time customer south of Howell a couple months ago. DTE Energy needed to replace a transformer at their substation at Beck Rd. The transformer was brought in by rail on the adjacent GLOR tracks, unloaded from the mainline since their is no siding, and the old transformer was later removed by rail. GLOR ran a special extra out of Osmer Yard to handle this operation. The train ran north, stopped to allow the unloading, which took about 3 hours, then pulled north to the siding south of the AnnPere diamond, ran around the train, waiting for mainline traffic to clear, and headed back to the site. They then allowed DTE to load the old transformer, and proceeded south to Osmer Yard. The entire operation from leaving the yard to returning took just over 10 hours.
At Lakeland, the preperation work for the Lakeland Interchange Yard is progressing. The yard, which serves as the interchange point between the GLOR's mainline and Pinckney Branch as well as the GLOR and PONW has been a bit too crowded and it will only get more crowded as Pinckney's new customer comes online in 2025 and the operations at Fyke expand.
The former Hoover / Woodbridge site alongside US-23 has slowed down as more service is being provided directly to Michigan Seemless Tube in South Lyon by the PONW. Previously they would use both railroads to provide service. PONW directly and GLOR via the transload. Even with the reduction in MST's service, the transload has been able to pick up some traffic for other customers in the area.
The Whitmore Lake Passing Siding has been out of service for many months due to poor conditions. With maintainance crews busy on other projects on the system, the siding has simply been left blocked by derails. The siding was only used for movements related to the working of the transload, so trains are now running to Lakeland or Chilson before coming back southbound.
The GLOR had another odd single carload customer over the summer, as the Whitmore Lake Golf Links got delivery of a single carload of sand. The sand was part of a project to rebuild the bunkers around the course. It was delivered to an unloading site adjacent to 6 mile road. The car, and a rarely used caboose, were dropped on the main and the local proceeded north to do the rest of their work north of Whitmore Lake, and then ran back south, picking up the now unloaded caboose and car and running with the combination leading back to Osmer Yard.
Rhe-Tec continues to be steady with 5-10 carloads of plastic pellets per week being delivered.
Osmer Yard continues to be the base for service to customers between Ann Arbor and Howell. They will normally run to Gypsum Supply on the Amtrak Line near M-14, to the Ferry SIT Yard first thing on their shifts, before heading back to Osmer Yard and then heading north, working customers and interchanges between Osmer and Howell. On rare ocassions they will venture all the way north to Durand, normally due to misrouted cars. They will also run to Willow Run when needed, which is very rare and is normally due to crew shortages due to call offs, or mis-directed cars.

The GLOR Buckey Yard project has resulted in some interesting trackage rights operations in and around Columbus, Oh.
GLOR had worked with both CSX and NS to create a system plan that works in the best interesting of all 3 parties to get trains into and out of Buckey Yard.
Buckeye Yard works several different lines out of Columbus so trains from Buckeye can be working the Logan Subdivision, the Midland Subdivision, the Lilly Chappel Subdivision (Camp Case Line), Kanawha Subdivision. As a result this can cause a lot of congestion in and around Columbus. When Buckeye Yard was rebuilt by the GLOR, NS and CSX insisted on connections on both the north and south ends to help eleviate congestion in the Columbus area.
Kanawha Subdivision trains will take the Buckeye Terminal District from their home tracks before continuing on the Dayton District until they reach Buckeye Yard. If congestion prevents them from accessing the western portion of the route over the Dayton District, they also have trackage rights over the CSX Scott Lawn Secondary to the Mounds Connecting Track, and then taking the Buckeye Terminal District to the connecting track to Buckeye Yard.
For the Lilly Chapel Subdivision, the GLOR trains will normally run around their train on the passing siding at the east end of the line and then after obtaining permission from the NS Dispatcher back onto the NS main, use the crossover near I270 to enter the yard from the south. If traffic is heavy they have been known to be forced to push all the way back to the Mason connecting track on CSX's Scottslawn Secondary, before heading up to the Mounds Connecting track and back to the yard via the north side.
Trains from the Midland Subdivision have an even more problematic access to Buckeye Yard. They connect onto the Dayton District heading EB, then have to run all the way to Parsons Yard, run around their train at Parson's Yard before heading back to Buckeye either via the southern or northern enterance. If the train from the Midland Sub does not have any cars for NS, they will often drop their train in Parsons Yard and either pick up outbound traffic for the GLOR from CSX, or head lite power to Buckeye Yard. There is talk about adding a passing track, similar to what is on the Lilly Chapel Subdivision to the Midland Subdivision. If this were to be completed, the Midland Subdivision has approximately 1.25 miles of available space between the first road crossing and the junction to install as a passing siding. If this were to be completed, the bridges on the line are all capable of handling a second track, but it would require some relocation of the main track to accomidate a second track.
Trains from the Logan Subdivision have the easiest route into Buckeye Yard. They simply run up to Parson's Yard, then either head across the Dayton District or up to the Buckeye Terminal District to enter the yard from either the north of the south.
CSX and NS prefers the trains entering from the south end, but will route trains north if traffic considitions require it.
In addition, GLOR is possibly going to be purchasing another section of trackage around the Columbus area, in addition to the East Columbus Terminal Trackage being purchased by the Buckeye Terminal Railroad.
GLOR is in talks to purchase the Athens Industrial Track, which runs from the connection with the Logan Subdivision to Parson's Yard. The purchase will be from a point 150 east of the diamond with NS to a the connection with the Logan Subdivision. This purchase will come with 1 online customer, Cleveland Cliffs operates a distribution facility off this line. In addition, the area does provide the possibility of creating a transload for a couple nearby customers, plus the possibility of adding another customer on the branch.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There will be one more addition to the GLOR's trackage coming in 2025. GLOR will be building a connecting track to the White Pigeon Subdivision (INER line) coming from the north. The line will split off the GLOR mainline south of W. Chicago Rd before heading to the White Pigeon Subdivision / INER near the plastic transload. This line will then continue along Sol Morris to the White Pigeon Yard.
In addition GLOR will be rebuilding the White Pigeon Yard as traffic is expected to increase on the line in the future with the addition of the scrap facility in Sturgis and the reconnection of the line between Coldwater and Sturis, providing a western outlet for all INER traffic.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Word has come out about the GLOR's parent company possibly purchasing another railroad company, on top of the planned purchase on Anacostia Holdings. GLOR's parent company has filed a bid to purchase Regional Rail. Regional owns a variety of railroads, but two are likely going to be folded into the GLOR's operations if the purchase happens. The Indiana Eastern and the Ohio South Central Railroads will likely be combined into the GLOR system either as portions of the GLOR or subsidiaries of the GLOR. The Ohio South Central includes a portion of the former DT&I line west of Jackson, Oh.
Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Lansing area GLOR update. The GLOR will be doing some additional work on a couple lines in the Lansing area during the Spring / Summer of 2025 as part of their capital improvement plans (which are very extensive and will be posted prior to the start of 2025).
The plans in the Lansing area call for improvements on the Old Town Spur to Class 1 specifications. The reason for this is Lansing Ice and Fuel, a propane distrubtor in Lansing, has requested to begin getting rail service to their facility located adjacent to Friedland. In addition, Friedland's ownership has reached an agreement to do some work which will result in approximately 1-2 cars per month being shipped over the line, dependent on the value of scrap metal. As part of the cost of rehabiliating the line, Friedland and Lansing Ice and Fuel have agreed to a minimum number of carloads over the line or payment related to the cost of the reconstruction of the line.
The crossings on the line will retain their exempt status, as the railroad continues to plan service at a "slow walking pace" even as the line is upgraded.
In addition, GLOR and CSX have reached an agreement with to reinstall the spur to High Grade Materials, which is the former Boichot Concrete Company. The facility will be serviced by CSX, but will utilize materials brought to CSX by the GLOR, had the rail crossing on Turner Rd removed about 2019 when the old plant was demolished on site. High Grade built a new plant, which up to this point has not been rail served. The reinstallation will require the connection of the spur to the CSX Ensel Yard, and rebuilding of the crossing on Turner. In addition, the line from Saginaw Yard to the CN interchange at Hollow Yard will also be getting improvements, as will the interchange tracks in Hollow Yard.
The City of Lansing, CSX, CN and GLOR all continue to work to bring redevelopment to the area near the GLOR's tracks, citing rail access as a key feature of the properties.
The GLOR is also planning a future project to address the status of the line to Ried Machinery, which is normally only used for car stoage with the rare exception of when Ried is shipping a rare carload in or out. (1-2 per year). GLOR appeared to have arranged a lease for the former Quality Dairy Bottling Plant on the line in early 2024, but the plan fell through when the potential leasor was unable to secure funding for equipment. The company was going to be a molded plastic packaging company which would have recieved 1-2 carloads of plastic pellets per week.
Plans have also fallen through for a new plant located on the side of the GLOR's tracks near the CN/GLOR Diamond. A potential customer was interested in the property, but that proposal also fell through.
GLOR has expanded the trainsload at Cavanaugh Rd now and is getting 15-20 carload per week from this facility, including tank cars and covered hoppers. A couple additional customers have also looked at using this facility to transload materials as well. Further expansion of the transload, may require additional investment by the GLOR into the facility.
The Hammond Landscape Supply and L&L Aggregates spurs both opened during 2024 and provided a small but steady volume of cars. Hammond received a regular 1-2 carloads of inbound stone per week, as well as occassional inbound loads of compost material and mulch (covered hoppers and boxcars). L&L Aggregates received carloads of sand and stone in covered hoppers as well as shipping out broken and crushed concrete and asphalt in covered and open hoppers. L&L was averaging about 6 carloads per week, but this has slowed to 1-2 carloads per week as the weather has cooled.
Other customers on the line remain slow but steady. While the Lansing Branch isn't what it once was with a daily Lansing to Toledo train for Conrail carrying autoparts for Oldsmobile, it is seeing better days than when it was sold off as a unneeded branch line by NS.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Salt and deicer traffic has been heavy on the GLOR. Northwest Michigan Salt in Cadillac has been getting regular shipments of inbound salt and deicer liquid for distribution to a couple road commissons and private contracts. The consortium of road commissions in Traverse City have been getting a decent quantity of both the deicer and salt as well.
The TC area has been getting more deicer solution than road salt as they are trying to limit the use of salt due to environmental factors and current research seems to indicate the solution works better at a wider temperature range and has less environmental impacts. Cadillac is still getting more traditional salt.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
After a long period of rumors, it has become official. GLOR has purchased a pair of properties between County Road V and County Road T, disected by County Road U outside Liberty Center. The GLOR has been rumored to be wanting to be more heavily involved in the car storage business, and with the multitude of projects the GLOR has been planning and completing over the past few years, there is substantial volume of old stick rail available either through their own storage or via contractors.
So what is this project? GLOR will be creating a new short term and long term car storage yard on this property. The property, which will be split into two different "yards" will have 8 stub end yard tracks connected to the yard lead on the north end, by County Rd V. These tracks will be approximately 4800 fet in length and stub end just north of county road U. The same set up will be present on the south side of the line, with 8 tracks, also approximately 4800 ft in length starting at county road T and heading north, stub ending just south of county rd. U. The tracks will be built on the west side of the existing mainline.
In addition, the GLOR will be building a passing siding / second main between County Rd's V and T which will be used to support the switching of this facility.
GLOR also anticipates granting trackage rights to the Ohio Western Railroad and the Delta Terminal Railroads to access this facility.
The GLOR has anticipated the need to additional space to store roughly 1,000 cars due to seasonal traffic levels across the system. This facility will provide roughly 1,100 carloads depending on car length worth of storage space in a concentrated area. The facility will be used for SIT, short term and long term car storage, and will help the GLOR's ESLR with a storage crunch caused by reconfiguring of the tracakge in Michigan.
The facility has already undergone most of the permitting requirements, and will be built approximately 12 feet below the level of the mainline through the area. The dirt, appriximately 6 feet deep of which will need to be removed, will be used for grading the connections to the mainline, building the base for the passing siding and building a protective berm alongside the facility to provide site and noise mitigation to surrounding properties. In addition, the area will have a clay base layer 8-12 inches thick on which the yard will be built. The buffer zone, including the berm, extend 300 feet outside of the farthest track west in the facility. In addition, the buffer zone will include a clay lined trench on the inside of the berm. The pupose of this trench will be to collect rainwater and debris which may wash off from the storage yard and collect the debris before it inflitrates the local drain system in and around the area. The depth of the trench will be sufficient to collect a 100 year rainfall event without overflowing the banks. The clay lining will be used to prevent chemical leakage. The trench water system will be routinely tested for chemical contamination of the water. GLOR management agreed to these conditions because they felt this location was best suited to the GLOR's network in terms of car storage sites.
The location will allow the GLOR to provide rapid (1 day-2 day) delivery of cars stored in the yard to locations across much of the system, from the Northern Division (and Lake Michigan Division via the Amtrak Division, and Muskegon Divisions), via the access at Diann, the Peoria Division (via OWR and Fort Wayne Division at Lima) and the Lake Erie Division (via Lima). The facilities location, in relation to the yards at Lima will also allow the railroad to quickly pull unit trains volumes of cars from the facility. It is anticipated that the primary cars stored on this facility will be grain hoppers, sand and aggregate cars (open and covered hoppers), cement covered hoppers, and tank cars. In addition to providing access to the GLOR's rail network, the location will also provide 1-2 day access to the remainder of the North American Class 1 Network either via direct access, or trackage rights access.
In addition to this facility, GLOR's sister company JEC Rail Services, will be building a rail car cleaning facility in Delta, Oh. This facility will be used to provde chemical and mechanical cleaning to a wide variety of rail cars in properation for storage maintainance work. The facility will be built on GLOR owned property on the northeast quadrant of the NS / GLOR diamond.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The GLOR has made another purchase from LTEX, this time for an additional group of power for their road freights.
LTEX has been keeping a substantial number of former CSX SD50's on their property in Lordstown, OH. GLOR forces have long been using LTEX as a source for used power for their system. In late November, GLOR purchased multiple units from LTEX. These included
Ex-CSX 2493 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5007
Ex-CSX 8553 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5008
Ex-CSX 8615 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5009
Ex-CSX 8590 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5010
Ex-CSX 2491 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5011
Ex-CSX 8557 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5012
Ex-CSX 8561 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5013
Ex-CSX 8531 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5014
Ex-CSX 2486 (SD50-2) Renumbered GLOR #5015
Ex-NS 3498 (SD40-2) Renumbered GLOR 4067
Ex-NS 6111 (SD40-2) Renumbered GLOR 4064
Ex-NS 6112 (SD40-2) Renumbered GLOR 4065
Ex-NS 3213 (SD40-2) Renumbered GLOR 4066
These units will also be shipped to the Lima Shops for acceptance work before being put into service.
This purchase appears to indicate a possible shift in the railroads operations away from earlier generation power, to a more set roster of power. It is expected, with multiple additions to the GLOR's locomotive fleet, that many units from the roster will be transfered back to the GLOX roster (Great Lakes and Ohio River Leasing).
GLOR has been rumored to be making another corperate purchase in addition to those already announced by the railroad. The additions of a couple other railroads to the mid-west and mid-atlantic region will again add significant carloads of traffic to the rialroad, but will also stretch the railroads operations thinner.

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The next major project for the GLOR, other than the possible purchase mentioned above will be creating a map of the entire system. It is hoped that the system map, for all GLOR tracks as will as sister railroads and subsidiary lines will be completed by the end of the month. It is a slow process, but one that hopefully will provide additional insite into how massive the GLOR system has become and hope difficult it is to keep track of it all.
Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
In other locomotive news, the GLOR's Lima shops have completed work on a new, one of a kind locomotive, and it will now be tested in and around the Lima area.
The locmotive is #9999 which is an expirmental SD7EL. The Lima shops have removed the diesel power plant and replaced with with a battery pack. It has in shop load testing to retain is battery charge for a period of 16 hours. The fast charging system will charge the battery completely in a 6 hour period, meaning this locomotive should in theory be capable of working and recharging once per 24 hour period, perfect for its use on the Avoca branch it is being designed for use on.
