CSX MQT GRE Train Location Update 4-21-08

Unread post by Raildudes dad »

Looks like a crew on duty at the GRE. Only 4 inbound King CH's. The inspection pit is poured. The forms need to be stripped and the pit backfilled. An Amtrak mini van dropped the crew off and then headed east - pick up last night's crew at the Radisson?

P37020 was 2+ hours late getting in which would put them (P37121) past HOS by the time they hit the state line. So my guess is that someone at CNOC got on the ball and got the recrew up here.

E441 cleared Plymouth Diamond at 2:30pm and G331 cleared the diamond at 4:45pm. Shortly after; D717 came into North Yard at 5:15pm. D717 kept stopping while going into North Yard. The train apparently was too large to get it all in the yard in one shot, so they had to break-it-up and yet blocked-up the Saginaw Wye, Main, and Yard lead. That sucker was well over 50 cars! Also at the exact same moment; D738 and Q272 met on the South side of Plymouth Diamond.

Hey Zack, is this K357 a W&LE Coke Train?

You know, I THOUGHT I heard that distinct Amtrak horn going through Grandville well after the normal time last night.

K357 is/was a loaded Coke Train that ran from Detroit to Chicago via Grand Rapids. Up until 2007, it ran nearly every day. Then some changes took place and it vanished, along with three other Detroit-Chicago coke trains (K351, 352 and 356, all of which ran only occasionally).

I guess there is a story behind that...

- NOPE!!! Well part of it is right.
You know, I THOUGHT I heard that distinct Amtrak horn going through Grandville well after the normal time last night.
Well according to the LSA on 370, the crew ran a red signal, (we believe Grandville) and that would be why there was a fresh crew for 37121. This would also account for the 75 min delay incurred between Holland and Grand Rapids.
