CSX GRE MQT TRAIN LOCATION 03-29-08
Driving home from Muskegon, cranked on the scanner as I got into GR...was listenin in on the yard to some nice chatter, but have missed Q335 callin, as after I got through the S-curve, heard Q335 clearing Pleasant St. What type of engines? "two big box ones"
Following Q335 into the yard, CSX Y321 was coming in with CSXT 6134 i believe. They released their yard limits, and behind them Marquette Rail Z151 is coming in...they were sitting up at Turner for a short bit.
Also heard the tower say there was a coal train coming in near Hudsonville.

Well, that was confusing. Around 8:00 there was a conversation between the Calumet City dispatcher and a train that sounded like it was stopped in Plymouth, waiting for a SB coming off the Saginaw Sub. This was after I thought I had heard N956 clear 7 Mile on the scanner a few minutes earlier. So I thought, something SB must have been in the siding in Novi waiting for N956 to pass. So I went down to the 7 Mile crossing to look for it. And then I see N956 approaching from the south! Led by BNSF 9939 and 9506.
My only guess is the earlier train was the SB empties, led by BNSF 9133 and perhaps the guy (is it the engineer or conductor that calls out the signals?) mistakenly called his train N956 instead of E945.

Here's EMDACESteve's post:
Power for E945-27 should be BNSF 9354 and a CEFX AC44. Unknown which unit is in the lead.
Here's something odd. Tracing shows the BNSF 9939 and BNSF 9506 arriving in Flint on the 27th at 0700.

To answer Zack's thread from above, The 956 Essexville coal trains often swap power at Grand Rapids. What he comes into GR from Chicago with, is often not the power he leaves GR with for Essexville. Case in point is the above train. N-956-24 came into Grand Rapids with BNSF 9939 and 9506. Even though the consist sheet showed this power running all the way to Essexville, the power was swapped out with the power the E945-25 had Essexville empty back to GR. (BNSF 9354, CEFX 1022) This set, BNSF 9354, CEFX 1022 in turn made another run back to Essexville.
Todays, N956-27 was supposed to have the BNSF 8814-5697 set to Essexville, but instead was swapped off with BNSF 9939-9506 set that should have been on the N956-24 train. All this may sound confusing, but think about it for a bit.

That would be the E945 mentioned a few times above..went through Trowbridge about at 2:41pm.mikekmac wrote:Anyone know what train cleared MP79.9 (Dobie Road, Okemos) at 2:25pm? 7091' long, 512 axles. A coal train, maybe? AFAIK none of the Q trains has run that long in some time.
