At 11:00am, there is a work train south of Plymouth diamond with a new crew getting on it. The units are CSX 6458 (GP40-2) and CSX 2245 (GP30) and a tool car, flat cars with track maintenance vehicles, and gondolas with continuous welded rail and I think a few ballast hoppers in the back of the train.

What's the meaning of CG, CGT, CC, CH, etc. in Zack's train reports? I'm sure it's something I should already know, but I must have missed that class.

I don't know the exact technical reason behind what the names mean, but it's basically what subdivision the train is currently on.
Like
PLASTER CREEK MI CGT 1
Means it's at Plaster Creek, which is mile post #1 on the Grand Rapids Terminal sub.

POWER DTC MI CGC 34 is milepost 34 on the old Fremont Sub.
MICHIGAN CITY IN BIG 65 is milepost 65 on whatever the sub is called down near Michigan City... it's just what my magic-8 ball spits back at me, so i copy and paste it as is.

The two letter codes distinguish diffrent rail lines between two end points. For example this happened to me the other night. RN called and said bring your train to a stop. So we stopped and she said they had a actavation failure at MP 86.5. After a min she came back and said it was ok to go that it was on the Plymouth sub, and not the (thats funny with out thinking about it they were both on the plymouth sub) near lansing MP 86.5. Now this is how it works. We were on the CC 86.5 the actavation failure was at CH 86.5.

CH is Detroit to Grand Rapids
CC is Saginaw to Toledo
CB was Saginaw to Ludington
CTT is Toledo terminal
CD is Walbridge to Columbus
BI is Willard to Chicago

There are no GP30's on CSX. This a mother/slug set.

I'm prety sure he knows that, as thats what he told me on the phone, it never made it to South LYon, all I saw was the road foreman and some guy in a Silverado 3500! putting track togetther at the Griswald Crossing.

BIG is the former MONON line at Michigan City. Dok himself isn't sure why it still shows as that is the MP for that City. If you are on the GR sub Michigan City is around CG127.

Plaster Creek is CGT 2.0 i think Zack. I'm not sure why they show the location for Grand Rapids east of there but it is the wisdom of CSX here...

Yeah I knew that, sorry.

Mike: I said there was a work train, I didn't mean it was on it's way. Sorry I had you waiting out there for a long time.

Here's a pic of it that I took this morning:

Wow. That's a nice shot Chris. Nice set of power too. That old GP30 looks quite classy in the new paint. Thanks for sharing the shot of the train.

Thanks Charles! I do like the YN3 paint on the GP30 (Slug) but I wish this train's power was those Orange CSX MOW GP40s insted.
