Heads up X550-18

Unread post by JTS »

There is an X550-18 planned out of Flint for this evening at 21:45. CSX Mojo wire shows loco CSXT 8092 planned for this train with 93 mty. tank cars going to the GLC in Owosso for storage. My guess would be that these cars will be put in the siding at Howell for the GLC to pick up tommorrow sometime with the engine lite to G.R. But I've been around this place too long to assume anything with the planning and/or routing of cars. :?

You gotta love the common sense here, lets ship it all the way down to Plymouth take a right, and park it on a passing in Howell, so the TISBEE can come down when they get a chance, and leave what ever cars they already have, and then add the tankers to the train, get permission on to CSX, to occupy the main, and siding, pull the train out, mostlikely they will have to shove it out the west end, due to the grade, then pull back onto their tracks, and take it back north, when you could just put in on the local from Flint to Durand and let the TISBEE pick it up in Durand.

CSX Mojo wire still showing the 8092 for the x550-18. Good reason why it wasn't ordered at 21:45. Look for them to hold the call on this slop job until the 8092 returns from the SBS.

Would that be why 8092 was on N956? So they had power for this train?

Last time CSX power was in Owosso, was when CSX sent two SD40-2s on one grain, train, and then two GE wide cabs on another. It had something to do with a strike. I saw video of it, prolly the only time a GE or 6 axle SD40 ran on the line. Bob M. knows more about it, it was the early 90's

If you guys are talking about the TSBY line in Owosso, than the only other time I can think of is 1969-72 when the PC ran coal loads that way with two or three SD40's. Tore the track up with a number of derailments due to the sheer weight on that track.

Regarding the many CSX grain trains that traversed up and down TSBY and the Ann Arbor from Toledo to Owosso and reverse that I showed Mike Tabone, it would have been in the time frame shortly after the take over took effect between Conrail and CSX/NS. Mid 1999 to mid 2000. Traffic back ups became so HUGE and Michigan grainerys were so desperate for cars, CSX grain trains were given to the Ann Arbor at Toledo and they came that way. One train even had four units with a CSX mother-slug in the consist, and another with five units including several Helm leasers. Fun while it lasted, at least for us to see in these parts.

IIRC one or two of those grain trains, has a AC6000 and a SD70AC or SD80AC on them. I rember people screaming about how AC6000's and 80 could never be handeled on the AA and low and behold there they were.

Wasn't there a CSX GEVO and CSX SD40-2 that came from a train on the Holly Sub and the locomotives went to Owosso the next day? I believe this happend back in December of 2007.

Crew was ordered for 08:50 this morning out of GR to taxi to Flint to get this train. Looks like it will have different power then what was planned for this job the 8092 still appears to be in Essexville with N956.

X550-18 arrived at Ann Pere at 545pm, with one unit, CSXT 5296. GLC with GMTX 2675 in the lead was there waiting for the train. The two are working with each other. X-550 has cut off from their train east of the diamond and pulling engine light into the pass at Lucy Rd. GLC will come out of the transfer, go east of the diamond on CSX to grab the train and take it west down the CSX main. X550 will grab the EOT off the end and after GLC clears the west end and backs around the tranfer, GLC will head north, and X550 engine light will go west. All of this to take effect by 630pm if everything goes right.

X550-18, CSXT 5296 departed Howell westbound at 642pm engine light. Will tie down their power at Ensel and taxi to Grand Rapids. GLC with GMTX 2675-2663 departed Ann Pere northbound at 625pm with 7200 feet of train. Heard the engineer state he didn't recall having one this long before. :D
