CSX GRE MQT Train Location Update 3-7-08

Unread post by Raildudes dad »

Looks like a quiet day att he GRE but I've ben fooled before. Nothing inbound that I could see. The NS outbound with scale car is still there. A mechanic's truck is at the engine house - don't know what that means. Cab car on the headend of 370/371, 66 on the rear.

X500 is in the blocks now, CP 8775 as sole power. Met Q335 at Elmdale. CSXT 5283 and 8123 powering 335.

X500 is really lugging. I heard the conductor and the dispatcher talking as X500 neared Logan Street; the conductor practically apologized, saying "I'm going as fast as I can" and "this is too much train for one engine" or words to that effect. 6318 ft, and a lot of it riding on the worst-sounding trucks I've heard in a long time. Do they still use the phrase "dry journals"?

When X500 reached the defect detector at MP 79.9, eastbound out of Lansing, it was making all of 18 mph.

And if anything, it slowed down from there. It crossed Okemos Road at 4:29 PM, but didn't cross Putnam Road in Williamston until 5 PM. That's 7.89 miles (MP 81.3 to MP 73.41) in 31 minutes, or about 15 mph.

Q32707 was held up at Williamston waiting for this turtle to pass. It crossed Putnam Road westbound at 5:15 PM. CSX 8108 and CSX 8335.

There was a 10 MPH slow order at Trowbridge due to CN crews fixing the diamonds there. That, plus the fact that Trowbridge is right in the middle of a grade, probably didn't help their struggles too much. Their GEVO was really howling when they passed me at Farm lane.

At least Salem Hill was an asset to them and not more trouble...

I watched a 119 car Q335 charge northward up the hill at Beck Road on Thursday behind a CW44AC and C40-8.... they were screaming!
