Great scanner range indeed Tom. Heard D70509 at MP 9, just barely out of Roughmere. Both asigned units up front with 53 cars when they went by Howell in and out of the siding around the same 67 cars now sitting on the main that the crew sat off in Brighton yesterday, Apparently, Howell-Brighton is becoming a yard for GLC traffic, and still no D708 in Howell in a LONG TIME, D901 has become the new job to shuttle GLC cars around locally. D90108 went east by Howell power light shortly after 01:00 with its assigned unit, 388, moved the 67 cars from the Brighton siding to the Howell main, picked up the 65 GLC cars in the Howell pass and went direct to Grand Rapids.

Yesterday, after dark, crew #2 arrived at Webberville that crew #1 spent its entire time going to Plymouth to turn the wrong facing unit around. Instead of G71308, the train became G90708 and went east by Howell at 21:15 with its 90 cars.

Yes, I was very surprised to hear that call coming from D705's actual crew reporting from Trowbridge. The info about him picking up cars from Lansing was the Dispatcher call being heard. That's a new record for range (for me) actually hearing the crew :D

Hi, I use the free on-line scanner for CSX Michigan West. I can hear the radio calls from Grand Rapids & as far west as the DD site @ mp CH104.3 and get lucky at times to hear a little further. Here's the link: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/22783
For the CSX radio calls on the Grand Rapids sub, from mp CG95 to mp CG72 I use the free Broadcastify scanner for Saint Joseph Area Rail & Marine: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/26249

Per Bangor chat, q327 has been stuck between Grand Junction and Bangor since 11am. N80008 between Gross and Kirk for 2+ hours, and q326 behind at Kirk. I foresee some dead trains soon.

Scanner is silent, but what looks like Q214 WB just turned north into North Yard in Plymouth. CSX 118 + 298. Didn't get an exact car count, but looked to be about 30 cars.

amessmann asks: Would you two mind sharing what your scanner setups are?[/quote]

Living trackside going on 51 years, I have three separate roof top antennas that are hooked up to three different in house scanners, one in the living room, one in the dining room and one bed side. All three reach out to various lengths which also gets out further or less depending on weather conditions The clear sky mid teen temps overnight really brought the local traffic clear, not the skip out of state traffic you get with certain wind direction or foggy conditions. Have a 4th scanner as well that is hooked up to speaker systems throughout the house that when I am mobile doing various things that would take me to the basement, back porch, side porch, deck or outdoors, i wont miss a thing going from one area to the other, Antennas are so old I don't even remember what type, what kind or what brand they are, but they all still work. The bedside scanner reaches out the furthest and the one I run to the most when I want to hear something the furthest away which I leave on the night to hear all what i report on. This one, a Bearcar, is my first scanner purchased in 1974, At my age, I don't sleep well anyway. Better than leaving the AM-FM on all night. Al the rest of my scanners are Radio Shack's of various ages but all old.

Additional Info: I had meant to also include, where the Broadcastify scanner for St Joseph drops off around mp CG72 (Kirk Siding) on the Grand Rapids sub-division, the CSX West Michigan scanner picks up from there to follow the CSX radio calls to Grand Rapids. I usually keep both of these on-line scanners running at the same time.
