So THAT is what I heard walking into work this morning. Thought it was odd timing for a train east of GR.
Seeing I did not watch D705 go by the house after the locomotives went by as I did not want to stand and watch 128 cars pass at 10mph for 15 minutes while 705 ran around the cars left on the main, I would have liked to have see more of your video in the near darkness. Would not standing on the opposite side of the track with the brighter street light and store lighting have not made it more visible? With under 50 cars of this train making it into GRP this morning, looked like a huge set off for Lansing. GLC was over on CSX in the night to pick up those 64 cars and went back north by 01:50.

I’ll second Bob and say you should try that lot across the street and try to be farther back from the tracks too. The camera shakes pretty good from the air coming off the train rushing by you and it’s a little jarring. If you ever want to do silhouettes though this isn’t bad.

Thank you all for the great tips! I will try that next time I catch a westbound. Today is D706 eastbound so I won’t be railfanning in the same spot. I see it is already headed east so that is a good sign. Hopefully it comes before dark

D706-09 @ 2:59pm eastward reported by the mp CH126.3 with 584 axles & 8,309 feet long. CSX engines #751 + #3203 + #4316(?) & 141 cars. Axle math didn't work out for three 6 axle engines & assuming he has CSX #4316 (4 axle type) again from yesterday's consist, but, don't know the reason why if he does.
D706-09 @ 3:03pm eastward reported from Lake Odessa mp CH120.4

Wow! He is really making good time! Will he have to do a switching job in Lansing?

Nice catch! It’s so funny to see you caught a train and then I look at your rank and it says “not a railfan”

Thank you, Jetlink! From what I had heard on the scanner, D706 has 58 cars to set off at Lansing "49 cars M04 & 9 cars L02" was also heard, I'm assuming those are track names there?

[quoteWow! D706 is really making good time! Will he have to do a switching job in Lansing?
Micah, just so you wont ever have to ask again, both D706 & D705 ALWAYS switches in Lansing and usually takes multiple hours to do so. With the usual size of his train, and set offs are not always on the head end and has to be placed in more than one track, it takes a lot of time.

Should be L02 and L04 I believe Tom on the Lansing set out. "L" is for Lansing.
