Same at MP 22.5 on the Holly. At least two SB's before dawn, one a short one that may have been that short container train you mentioned. And a NB at 5:55 am that got stabbed by departing Amtrak 351 at Pontiac was all or almost all CN coal hoppers. I presume a ballast train but odd time of year for that. Couldn't see if they were loaded or not but the two CN's were working hard up the Hill.

Coke train, eh? Looking at the Durand camera archives it came off the Holly Sub in Durand at 7:35am. Any chance this is new business or is this just a fluke?

I hope its new business. More trains on the Holly Sub would be cool!

I will try and monitor this and see if we get any more of these, but I work full time so my posts are hit and miss.

So this was the train I saw passing MP 22.5 on the Holly at 5:55 am this morning out back (see earlier post)? This is the first one I have seen go by.

Years ago (early 1990's probably) we had a regular coke train on the Holly that ran from the former DT&I Yard inside of Great Lakes Steel in Ecorse to CNW at Gary, Indiana and to a steel plant there. It was a joint train with CNW and always had a CNW locomotive (usually one of their brand new GP50's so that will date the trains) and both a CNW and GTW caboose (that dates it too). I think the coke maybe came from Solvay on Zug Island off the Detroit Connecting Railroad. This was one of the first trains with foreign power on GTW before that became commonplace.
