CN Updates- November 2018

Last night there was another 513 local out of Pontiac, this time with 5930 (its second trip on the Holly yesterday as it powered 515 too). It went SB past MP 22.5 at around 10 pm.

Right after 513 was 502 SB past my house.

This must be CN painted GTW SD40-2 #5930!!!! This engine led the 2017 "Santa Train!!!!" I've read that this is the first engine in CN "North America" scheme and the first of GTW engines repainted into "CN!"

I went to Google Earth® and found what must be "Belle River South Basin!!!!" The road crossing is "Big Hand!!!!!" Look at the regular map too!!!!

Where is Belle River south basin?

Belle River valley/basin begins at MTC m.p. 40.0 and ends at m.p. 42.0. It's a .52% descending grade to the Belle River bridge at m.p. 41.33, and a .51% nb ascending grade up onto the Meskill prairie. The top of the grade at Crawford Road is one of the few absolutely level spots on the Mount Clemens subdivision. The south basin trailhead parking lot for the 411 acre Columbus County/Belle River Valley Park is directly adjacent to the tracks at Big Hand Road and is a great railfanning location. And, if you like to hike, follow the Woodland/Mountain trail down into the hills along the river. It's spectacular scenery, with great photogenic views of the railroad and bridge at many locations. This was inaccessible territory up until just a few years back. Then, of course, there is the equally scenic north basin and lodge accessed from Bauman Road. Hope this helps!

The unit that caught on fire is cn 2643. It's a ge c44-9w built 08/2002. Fire dept just arrived on scene about 0140. Diesel doc said to set it off but desk 8 is working on a plan.
