I wonder why they didn't take any of the stuff they brought south yesterday from the Petoskey Branch...AANscaleRunner wrote:396 and 385 leaving Cadillac towards Clare at 1025 with 1 empty centerbeam, 6 wood chip hoppers and 8 tie loads.

Back into Cadillac at 1210 with 3 covered hoppers. Most likely from the co-op. Thought they may only go as far as McBain this morning.
Update: They were still moving around Selma Yard at 1500.

Not many trains depart Cadillac for Clare with 40 cars since sand traffic stopped several years ago

They must be planning on a long southbound Monday as they brought 3 engines up with such a short NB train today?AARR wrote:Not many trains depart Cadillac for Clare with 40 cars since sand traffic stopped several years agoAANscaleRunner wrote:396 and 385 leaving Cadillac for Clare at 0935 with 2 pulp wood loads, 15 tie loads, 11 cement hoppers and 12 tanks.

Re: GLC Updates February 2018
Not necessarily true. This past year has seen quite a few trains over 40 cars, and some going over 50 cars. If I recall right, there were also a few trains last year with over 60 cars in tow that weren't all just comprised with storage hoppers.AARR wrote:Not many trains depart Cadillac for Clare with 40 cars since sand traffic stopped several years agoAANscaleRunner wrote:396 and 385 leaving Cadillac for Clare at 0935 with 2 pulp wood loads, 15 tie loads, 11 cement hoppers and 12 tanks.

Re: GLC Updates February 2018
Indeed it appears that way. After documenting GLC fairly significantly over the past year, I think trains have also generally grown larger, more frequently than they were ten months ago. I'd like to see some official documentation on GLC carloadings over the course of 2017 to confirm that, but that's definitely the trend I've documented.MiRailProductions wrote:Not necessarily true. Just heard horns coming from Selma Yard at 0850. Yes, on a Saturday. And darn work getting in the way of me going over there.

So does anybody know where this loco is now? Did they bring it up under it's own power or as rail freight? Any pictures? thanks.BL2-1843 wrote:CSX D708 delivered CITX 3089, GLC's new six axel lease unit to GLC this afternoon (Thurs. GLC north through mount pleasant at 10:40
I was not close to the tracks but it appears 393 was leading 392, a few empty centerbeams, a small cut of LPG tanks, and at least 40 two-bay hoppers.
I counted 50 cars total

It's in Owosso. Arrived from Ann Pere Thursday night - DIT. It was outside the shops as of yesterday and word is that it needs a new turbo charger before being put into service. Word is it will eventually be numbered 400 on the GLC roster.Pixl wrote:So does anybody know where this loco is now? Did they bring it up under it's own power or as rail freight? Re: GLC Updates February 2018
Alright gentlemen, prove to me that trains departing Cadillac with over 40 cars is a common practice.
There have been a handful over the last 6 months or so. If my memory and math is correct 6 months x five days a week is 130 days of Cadillac train activity of which approximately 60% are trips to Clare (about 78). How many trains over 40 cars have there been...5 is my guess. 5 divided by 78 is 6.4%. In my book anything under 10% is "not many".
And I'm being generous only basing it on 6 months activity. If we went back the 10-12 months the % would be lower. So like I said prove me wrong.
