49 going to be very late into Chicago (if it ever makes it there). Train is currently in Sandusky 6+ hours late going EAST at 10 MPH. Line is closed off in Toledo, all switches getting replaced at Vickers and 281. CP 224 is also getting cutover in Vermilion, but already passed that. Might be going east back to CP 240 (station is at 241) to get onto the siding which heads to Bellevue... not sure though. Not going to be able to get to Chicago on the Chi line for a while.

11:40 ET - Yup, looks like that's what they did. They're currently in Sanduky Yard on the Sandusky District... Heading south at 10 MPH.

Not making excuses for NS, but they got the train from CSX about 5 1/2 hours late at Cleveland. It (#49) missed its window to get through Toledo before the railroad was shut down. No way of knowing if Bellevue became the fallback detour for a late train. Once at Bellevue, how would it get to Chicago without passing through Toledo? Maybe go up the the ex-WLE to Homestead Yard and back to the Maumee Bridge?

I worked this train as a conductor today. I am on the train (48) now and have expired for hours of service. We left Chicago about 5 hours late to start 48. Expect a daylight run across Sandusky Bay!

Where would #49 have gotten onto the former NKP to Bellevue and which line would it have taken to travel from Bellevue back to Toledo? In Toledo where would the former NKP that it took have connected with the Chicago Line (or one of the lines thru Stanley that would get it back to the Chicago Line)?
As a result of this detour and the previous delays west of Schenectady, NY due to high water, the hapless train was 9'42" LT getting into Chicago, which resulted in #48 getting out 4 hrs 38 min LT.

49 moved south onto the Sandusky District towards Bellevue at CP 240 (Sandusky). In Bellevue the train moved to the Toledo Line which heads for Homestead Yard in Toledo. At Homestead Yard, the train followed the Toledo Belt Line, which goes back into the Chicago Line at CP 286, which is just east of the Maumee River Bridge. Still was able to make the station stops in Toledo and Sandusky.

Anyone what know happened to #355 tonight? It came out of Detroit about 45" late due to an "incident in Detroit." It left Dearborn 7:30 PM, went thru Ypsi about 20 minutes later. Lost another 45" into Ann Arbor. ???

Did #29 have a Viewliner sleeper? There have been problems with the Superliners being shopped in Washington - I heard a rumor that one of the recent CAPITOLS had a Viewliner substitution. Not sure if it would be on the head or rear end. If true, it would have been awkward for the passengers to get to the diner lite!

Not that difficult. Almost all Superliner trains run with a Transistion Sleeper on the head end, that allows access to the single-level fleet. Usually all this feature does is allow the conductor to access the baggage car en-route to prep for a station, but sticking a Viewliner there wouldn't cause any issues.
