CSX Train Location Updates: 12/19/2016

Unread post by ~Z~ »

Y106 east at Fox in Grand Rapids about 11:50am. MOW has switches cleared out for them at Alto.
Q32619 is also supposedly somewhere in Indiana still; they'll die well before getting to Grand Rapids.

Q326 eastbound at Vine CG 92 at 17:18 ET.
304 axles, 4208 feet at 91.9 DD.
2 engines leading.

At 1738 a maintainer at CG 97.3 got an EC1 from EAS St. Joseph Bridge to EAS WE Livingston. Main track and siding @ Livingston... Sounds like they're having issues with the switches at Livingston.

An eastbound has a medium clear Grandville and a clear signal west end of Hudsonville. Would these be early signals for Amtrak, D700, or Q326??

Amtrak P370 finally moving onto the CSX at 20:55 ET, delayed due to following a freight then bad switch at Porter.

AMTK 145 leading... The other Phase III. What's the odds of having 2 heritage in a week, and both being Phase III?

Oh, that's right... MQT3001 outta town :)

Would have most likely been for Q326, though D700 is a possibility.

P370-19 with AMTK 145 leading east clear pair Livingston 21:38 ET... Sounds like there is a 10 MPH speed restriction somewhere between Stevensville and Livingston.
Clear Stevensville 21:44 ET.
20 axles, 362 feet at 91.9 DD at 21:48 ET.
Arrived in St. Joseph at 21:52, departed at 21:55, 40 minutes late.

Update 22:40 ET-
Approach Limited CG 58 Breedsville... Approach WE Grand Junction.
All stopped at EE Grand Junction... Sounds like Q326-19 is ahead at Saugatuck, prolly stalled. Pushers will be headed up to Saugatuck from Wells.

23:26 ET - D802 with BNSF 9227 leading east is at Wells, headed for stalled Q32619, who is at Saugatuck.
P370-19 with AMTK 145 leading is still stopped at Grand Junction waiting for all of this to clear up ahead.

I'd call this "par for the course", but clearly we've reached bogey territory.

"How the hell did they manage this Railroad with six times the traffic only 12 years ago?" - the question begs itself.

The question begs itself INDEED. Well we had people on the ground who had the guts to say they won't make the hill. We had people at the desk who would ask same. We had people at the desk who wouldn't let that happen in the first place.
Things didn't run perfect in the 90's with CP but it did rather well with what we had at the time.
Good crews, good dispatchers, good people make all the difference. Now everyone is afraid to act and react.
I watch from afar and giggle.

dok will love this one about last night on the hill
from what I could hear over the scanner last night.
per crew of 326 - 1 motor was so low on fuel that the fuel pump could not maintain flow to the motors
due to the grade 326 was climbing and shutdown about 2 miles from the crest of the grade and the remaining
motor couldn't pull them over the crest. lucky there were loads at wells. had to taxi crew from west olive
to wells, use those motors to push 326 between the switches at bk, let p370 pass on siding, then put the
bnsf power on the head end of 326, bring 326 to Wyoming and return to wells and back on the loads.
326 crew hos 1245a by east wy 120a
370 by 1235a
also had a y321 called at waverly last night - asked to go to zeeland at 1130p, told not to p370 and 326 os'd wy.

sooooooooooo, new major engine shop built and staffed 24/7 at Barr Yard. State of the art we are told. And they send out a train with a low fuel problem..as in there isn't any?
Amazing, simply amazing.
Stock continues to go up though. Why ask why? Durned ifn' I know.
P.S. the hill is at fault....it would have kept running if there wasn't a hill in the way. Durned hill....

And a P.P.S......no fuel at the house in GRP. No house either. Drag 326 power back to Holland for fuel then?
Fascinating.

It was reported when the power was given to 326 at Barr, Barr said to take it anyway. Reported again when the first crew died at MI City, no action taken by the powers that be.

KUDO'S to the outbound crew then. Barr always had a neat way of avoiding the truth for some time. GOT TO GET THAT JUST ON TIME DEPARTURE...they departed us whenever they felt like it anyway...

So i'm trying to track something down. Looking through my ATCS logs, i'm seeing a train run back and forth between Seymour and Elmdale - through the siding, back to west of WE fox, then off to Lake Odessa retuning west through the siding... 1) what symbol would this have been and why would they have been doing this?

What time are you seeing this happen based on the ATCS logs? I'd say check the road channel archives if you do have a time :)
