Not sure, just the name many of the railroaders have called that bridge. Unlike Maggies lead, which was named for a lady who sold property for Wyoming yard (and used to wave to the passing trains), I don't know the story for that one.

My understanding is the bridge was named after the farmer that owned the land where the RR crosses the Thornapple River. Probably named back in the 1870's when the RR was first build there.

Its been called Cooks Bridge since I was a lil kid wayyyy back in the 50's. Freinds of my grandma lived right there off of 48th on the west side of the river just north of 48th. Gramma always asked if I wanted to go to the Kagle Farm (Cooks I guess before that maybe). Needless to say the answer was ALWAYS yes!
X50001 called at Bensenville for 01:20 08/01/2010.

First time hearing that name. Very cool. I figured it might have been a local land owner or something way back when, but I wanted to ask to make sure. Always nice to get a little history lesson once in a while. :)

it comes from 1930's when a Steam engine derailed on the bridge fell into the river thus boiling all the local kids to death who were swimming the next days internet headlines read " kids cooked to death by train"
