NS OCS for next Tuesday

Postby cnw8835 on Wed Oct 28, 2009 12:14 pm

Saw this on a message list. I cannot gaurentee its acuraccy...

"As I type this message (Tuesday) the train is deadheading west thru Ohio. It is planned
to depart Peru, IN at 5:15 tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. It will then proceed west to
Moberly, MO via Decatur. The train will tie up at Moberly until next Tuesday
(November 3rd), when it will run east to Detroit via Decatur and Peru, IN. It
will depart Moberly. MO at 8:00 AM and is scheduled into Decatur at 12:50 PM.
The train will stop for lunch at Decatur and then depart for Detroit.

The train will consist of all four F units and 9 passenger cars. The 4271 is
leading westbound, so it is likely that the 4270 will be leading eastbound."

The train was later confirmed as running with symbol 955, by Peru, IN at 02:20 this morning.

I have info that it is called in Elkhart today (time?) and heading east as 907 to Butler with a crew change then up the Wabash line to Detroit. That's all I have.

Detroit? wow. Anyway - any speculation on what happens after it gets to detroit? The afternoon run up the Wabash will be right outta the sun (if there is any!) but would they possibly layover in D town and head south to Toledo and make the turn east from there to head home the next day? Or would that happen at night? Or perhaps something totally different?

I need to update my prior post. I think I am a week early. Saw a photo on another website of the OCS today westbound in Springfield, IL. Don't think it is going up the Wabash today. The initial post obviously makes sense compared to my prior information. Bottom line...hope it goes up the Wabash and I can see it like I did when it came through last time. Sorry for the incorrect info.

Get out a map of the NS system, and find Moberly, MO and trace the fastest route to Detroit. You'll find that the answer to your question is way to obvious for this to be answered.
The dispatcher is cool.

A little bit more info copied from another list. I will reinforce what this guy says, THIS IS AN ESTIMATE and is not issued by NS...

"It is scheduled to depart Decatur at 12:20 CST. I expect the train will run at 60 MPH where it can, but permanent speed restrictions through Danville, Attica and Delphi, for example, will most likely drop the AVERAGE speed to between 50 and 55 MPH. However, for ease of calculating, I am going to use 60 MPH in my estimations. If you want to see and/or photograph it, I am ESTIMATING it will be in the following places at the following times:

Decatur [Wabic] MP 375.6 ... 12:20 CST [CENTRAL STANDARD TIME]
Danville Jct. MP 300.4 ... 13:35 CST
Attica MP 276.8 ... 15:05 EST [EASTERN STANDARD TIME]
Lafayette Jct. MP 256.8 ... 15:25 EST
Delphi MP 238.6 ... 15:45 EST
Clymers MP 224.3 ... 16:00 EST
Logansport MP 218.5 ... 16:10 EST
Peru MP 202.5 ... 16:25 EST

Please remember, these times are ESTIMATES and NOT an actual timetable!! I have included the mileposts for anyone who would like to take the time to be more "scientific" with the schedule. Remember, the train will not be able to run 60 MPH all the way, so I think it will be later than the times I've shown. Obviously, it's going to be much better to be someplace EARLY and have to wait than miss it altogether!"

All locations are in Indiana so if it is even close to this estimate, virtually all of its trip through Michigan will be after dark.

Anyone hear/know anything about what'll happen after they get to Detroit? (i.e. where/when for next move)

That may be of more interest to this list (and certainly to me! - PM's happily accepted...)

Last heard, it's supposed to depart Decatur IL at 1:20p Eastern time, but here's some other info per trainorders:

burlingtonjohn wrote:NS 952 cleared Hannibal Missouri at approximately 10:00 am this morning. They stopped at Hill Street downtown to pick up passengers.

NS 4271 is on the point.

Again, don't expect it before nightfall, but is still pretty sweet to see in the dark.

I've seen some speculation that the train may tie up in Peru or Ft Wayne for the night. This is not confirmed info.

That sounds realistic especially if this possibly deals with some sort of "inspection" of the line or wooing CP some more? Thats a pretty long trip for one day during daylight hours. Supposedly NS/CP execs were on the last trip in 2007. A lot of people were in the rear car window area when it went by me. Kind of hard to see alot after dark especially with the recent time change. There has been alot of track work going lately in SW Lenawee County. Could simply be general maintenance. Lots of activity though. Hope it gets here in daylight hours for a good photo op.

That would make sense and I've heard from a couple different sources that it should show up in Detroit (Oakwood) around mid-day tomorrow (Wed.) and one of those sources said I could mention it here. What I'm still trying to find out is where it will go after that... :?:
