Another weird car

Unread post by Railzfan »

Does anyone know what kind of car this is? I remember seeing photos of a car like this before but can’t remember what it was. Seems like it was a woodchip hopper. But why the tarp? I spotted this car in Rochelle, IL in July. Let me run those reporting marks a sec. Hold on.

I found that the car is from Helm-Pacific Leasing, I couldn’t find anything else!

Did a little poking around, and found that HPJX owns a number of woodchip hoppers, and the pictures mostly showed them with the tarp over them.

I would think they have the tarp to keep the woodchips from blowing out as they speed along the tracks.

Yes it is a woodchip hopper, but no its hard to what it is hauling, with out knowing where it is gooing. A lot of old woodchip cars, especially ones that have been put into lease fleets, are now hauling fluff (I cant think of a nother word except trash, but fluff is basicly ground up car interior, with other crap mixed in.) and other de-construction debres. The landfill south of Fostoria gets alot of that stuff, around 10 to 15 cars a day, in old wood chip cars just like that.
