Dalian Locomotive Works (DLoco) and Electro-Motive-Diesel signed an agreement to build 300 locos, the units will be jointly designed and manufactured in Dalian, China, with DLoco under a technology license from EMD. The units will be “SD90MAC-type”, with EMD’s 16 cyl. 6,000 HP 265H engine, but unlike their US counterparts they will weigh considerably less because China’s rails cannot support the weight of the US’s heavy road units. The first locomotives are expected to roll out in 2007.
