Is CSX retiring the CW40-8's in the 7300 series?

Unread post by csxcw46ah677 »

While reading Facebook earlier today, I observed that a journalist company wrote that at least 21 of those had wound up being sold. My theory is that they could be the older dash 8 units with outdated electronics. Does anyone know anything about this, or can shed some light on it?

The C40-8Ws have been on the CSX roster ever since 1991 (in other words, a super long time), with the ex-Conrail units joining in 1999. They have probably pumped out a million miles for all I know. They are probably deteriorating inside (and out).

However, CSX is not giving up all of their Dash 8's, but the 7300s are likely going to be the ones that are given up.
