Anyone know of storm damage or shut downs to rail service from these events? I couldn't find anything on Google.

Basically everything in Florida is shut down, and stuff up and near the coast in GA and SC are due to close or are on alert that they may close. CSX, NS, FEC and Amtrak all have details on their websites.

Biggest countermeasure besides moving equipment to higher ground is pre-positioning ballast trains.

The storm is still approaching, so I doubt there's much storm damage currently.
As for shutdowns, I haven't heard anything either, but coastal areas are being evacuated from Miami all the way up to the Carolinas.

The news tonight said Amtrak was shut down until at least the weekend, along with all other rail traffic. Planes are being flown out of the area, to prevent damage or being flipped over. All airports are shut down, but remain open for stranded travelers who have nowhere to go.
Got family in Ft Lauderdale. Concrete house, heavy tile roof, all windows covered with aluminum hurricane covers. Been there every winter. The house is a fortress. Daughter says "it's not too bad".....yet. Storm still approaching. Power will almost certainly go out. They have a generator, and propane for cooking.

When you engineer things right, it isn't so bad. When your house is on a barrier island and not elevated on stilts...well now we have a problem.

It appears the hurricane is staying a bit offshore and may not be as bad as expected. But I suppose they have to plan for the worst.
Thursday night 11:30 pm Winds in Ft Lauderdale only 26 mph from the west, Stuart 30 mph, Daytona beach 27 mph ENE. Eye is about 50 miles offshore. The strongest winds I can find along the coast from Miami to Jacksonville are 40 mph at Melbourne, and the eye is 50 miles offshore of Stuart.

Amtrak has suspended service in the Southeast.
