North East PA (North west PA)

Unread post by CSXBOY »

Hi i am going out on a trip out to North East PA in September . Its actually in North west PA All I know that the CSX Lakeshore sub and Norfolk Southern Youngtown line. Canadian Pacific has trackage rights it has one train from each direction. Also Amtraks lakeshore limited has 2 trains a day. When are the best times to see trains between Wednesday eve and Saturday morning. What are the symbols in North East and wheres is a printable railfan guide that can be internet

Thanks CSXBOY

First of all, the lines are the CSX Erie West Sub and the NS Lake Erie District. CP does not have "trackage rights," the two trains they run (Q165 and Q166) are run-through trains with CSX crews. I can't tell you what the best times are, probably doesn't matter anyway. Way too many symbols to list and I don't think there's a "printable guide that can be internet," whatever that means.

It's a busy place (fast track up there too). Just go there and you will be happy. Lots more CSX trains than NS though.

Sounds like a great opportunity to observe and report your findings back to us.

CSX seems to spread their trains out there on the Lakeshore Sub, everytime I go do a all day outing in Northeast PA, I always see CSX running one through every 20-30 minutes, where in places such as here in South Bend on the NS Chicago Line, we usually get a burst of 10 trains in an hour, then 6 the next hour, then 2 the next 3 hours, then it heats up again and the cycle repeats.

NS NKP is busier in the nightime for sure.

Back in Jan Trains magazine said that CP has trackage rights 1 train from each direction. Did they quit having CP trains on the csx?

That was an error in Trains. Should read "haulage rights."

Wow, an individual and an organization on this website that isn't afraid to admit an error, inaccuracy, mistake, or omission. I hope this trend continues.

We don't mistakes. We make typos, misunderstandings, and whatever else we call them.
