Picture of the Month - Winner January 2010

Going to put up a new monthly vote every 2 weeks until we get caught up for the year. Here's the favorites for January 2010. Click on the thumbnails to view the full size picture, and vote for your favorite. Poll is open for 7 days. The winners of each month will then go on to be the 12 pictures competing for Picture of the Year 2010.

This is a very, very difficult decision for me. For me it comes down to my favorite subject matter vs best picture. Even by narrowing it down that way it was still a tough decision. Nice job to all the photographers!

Not to be a nit-picker or a troll here, but wow this selection isn't great. I don't know if the pickings for January uploads were slim or what but this series lacks a lot. Especially shots like #15. Cool to see a Conrail unit (I've shot that one 4 times alone this year ) but not really one for the "best of" series.

And FWIW, my shot of the CNW 1995 sucks. Matt's should be the one, although I can't find it in the gallery. He must have deleted it or something. Oh well.

I dont think I up loaded it here. After Z said we need to cut back after changing servers, I have not up loaded much. Have other places to do it. Should we maybe start to include linked photos for sites other then RP? I guess once I up load it somewhere else, I dont bother to up load it here.

No problem about the trolling Y@... maybe not the best month's worth, but still some decent shots. I try to only include one photo per photographer and try to pick their best. There's been a few times where people spread their votes out amongst a few photos of one guy, and then none won. Also, can't leave TW out with that Conrail shot, after all he said that shot made him not a failer anymore.
I'm looking around at ways to better show off people's photos on sites like Flickr.. but until then, going to still just use the photos from here. May I suggest that if you don't upload any here, try one a month just so it can be in on the monthly vote

I have to agree with Zack. Some months pickin's are slim, so he has to take what's available.

I haven't posted any pictures in about the last year simply because not much has been running in my neck of the woods. It's also hard for me to justify a tank of gas to mosey down to Buckeye-land to take photos of catfish.

FYI Brian - I think this picture was taken at former Ford Vinyl plant. The former Ford Trim plant is north by 23 Mile Rd.

Thanks everyone! Just out of interest, a different crop of the same basic shot worked out pretty well on rp.net also, only due to the classic power with Conrail leading I'm sure. One of my few truely 'cloudy' shots on rp.net also:
