Kodak Z700 Vs Nikon 4600

Okay, been using my folks Kodak Z700 this weekend:
I'm kinda disapointed with it, although it does have manual control settings, I have not touched them yet.
Heres one from the Kodak today E945-"Christmas Eve" at Mill St in South Lyon
Promblem:
1. Clouds look bad
2. time delay with the screen, and eye viewer is to small
3. flash turns on everytime you turn it on


Then heres one with my Nikon:


Which do you think looks better? Both Were taken at roughly the same time.

I have a Z700 and while it's not best on overcast days, the manual settings do come in handy. Night shots come out very nice with 8" exposures, too. Yeah, the flash turning on everytime drives me crazy.

On sunny days it can be quite rewarding though.

This has nothing to do with the camera, but Mike, what was the number on that nice looking BNSF SD70ACe?

And John, when did you take that pic of 9026? I have not seen one of the old MPI units for a long time, I know some where former SP, SSW and UP, 19 SD45's and 1 SD39. Numbered 9000-9020. Do you have a side pic?

Sure do, Railzfan. Believe it or not, I've been seeing these HLCX ex-MPI rebuilt SD45s around here fairly often the last few months. The picture was taken the week of Thanksgiving. That day the 9026 was lashed up with another matching ex-MPI unit. Made for a cool consist!

One other note: MPI 9018 was former Southern Pacific SD45 8935.

And thanks Matt for the info...I know they go all the way up to 9047...but I was stating that the #'s 9001-9020 where former SP, SSW and UP units. They where mostly SD40's and SD45's with the exception of MPI 9001 (ex-IT 2305/N&W 2965) which was a SD39.

For some reason I cannot edit it and save it, and if I cannot resize it, it will be way to big to look any bit decent, and since they were moving at track speed, I have a nice shot of a 6 bethgons, stupid camera delay, or it was because the horn was really loud, and my left hear was hurting really bad after it hit the crossing.

Mike is sounds like the photo file is corrupted, I had that happen to me once too! I’m not really sure if there is anything you can do about it except re-download the photo’s from your camera if they are still on it. And it’s too bad that your camera has a delay, I remember my old cam did too and I was always missing the good stuff.

And thanks for the update about MPI 9021-9047, I didn’t know some of them where former PRR and CB&Q. Thanks for the info.

Mike, between the Kodak and the Nikon photos, main difference is that the Kodak is backlit, looking somewhat towards the sun, while the Nikon photo has the sun at your back, where it should be. It's hard to compare the two due to this.

Flash turning on on every shot, with no option to turn it off, sounds odd..but if it's true, i'd stick with the nikon.

I'd highly suggest using manual modes as often as you can when you have a minute or two to set up for the shot.

I agree Zack, but both of those shots had me running, in steel toes, for about 400 yards, because I missed judge the timing since some crews call the signal after they pass it, and some call it when they see it. If I wasn't a Cross Country Runner, I wouldn't have made it for any of the shots.
