Yep... another Rejection

Bad Cropping... the story of my life. Really thought this was a good shot.

It is a good shot, but it's not the kind of shot they're looking for.

Soft, backlit (sidelit), unlevel and poorly composed.

This is why you just have to accept that it IS a good photograph overall, but this isn't what they want. The FOV with the lens and composition is odd. In this case, a different lens or focal length may have made cropping it look more pleasing. Sometimes the subject/lighting isn't there, like Y@ was suggesting.

Don't feel bad. I've made thousands of dollars off photos I'm sure would have been rejected at some website somewhere. Who cares?

It's a good photo that could have been great had you not cropped (or composed) it so tight on the right. Give the train a little breathing room!

Cropped tight on the right, loose on the left: no balance.

I like it TW. Little shadowy in back. Maybe a little too much grass in the foreground. I'm far from an expert, just my thoughts.

Not bad Clay, just really pixilated. At any rate, don't really care. It was good to me and that's all that matters. I have 188 others that I like as well. And that was just from my visit to the Huck.

Better but now you run into the problem of it being too square.

Which, for the record, is only a problem for RP.net.

It being pixilated was probably because I put it in paint to crop it.

And I agree it looked a little boxy, I'd maybe take a little more off the bottom if anything.

Unless the original had more to the right, this shot was doomed when it was taken IMO.

Way too tight on both sides and there is no reason for it to be composed as a vertical shot and even if it were there is no reason to have it centered in a vertical crop like that.

How many times have we been through this with your stuff, James? yet when you get a rejection you still piss and moan about it and we have tried to show you the way time and time again. I don't mean to rag on you, but come on man.

Another thing, isn't there a loop at both ends of the track so if you had waited for the return trip wouldn't the light have been on the nose? You have to think about these things while you are out shooting.
