Adobe Photo Processing Question
I was advised a while back to resize your RAW photos before processing them into JPG. From what I was told pixels change in the resize and an already adjusted photo might be subject to color and pixel problems. But when working with the Adobe RAW editor I am adjusting color, etc... then saving the image in a larger state then resizing in Adobe. Is there away to resize in the editor? Does it really matter?

Re: Adobe Photo Processing Question
Resizing should be the very last thing you do in your post-processing workflow.

So do all the photo editting first then resize what you like.. Exact opposite, almost, of what I have been doing... Ugh.conrailmike wrote:Resizing should be the very last thing you do in your post-processing workflow.

Well, yes. I actually adjust all of my colors, highlights, shadows, etc. first, THEN crop. I save as TIF and then do some more adjustments in PS. You can resize here. You can also sharpen very last, after resizing like Brent said. That can help get your photo as absolute as sharp as you can. Backing up, when I have my TIF file the way I want it, exactly, I sometimes save it as a high RES JPEG, then resize it to the pixel dimensions I want, such as 960 x 600 or something like that. You can also resize the TIF file down to about 1 or 2 MB. It's up to you. But no, nonsense in resizing a RAW. Doesn't make any sense.

Re: Adobe Photo Processing Question
I save my raw images at 72 dpi jpgs before processing (for the web). When I know I'm going to print something, I save them as 300 dpi jpg images before processing. For web uploads, I'll level the full size, 72 dpi image in photoshop first, and then my next step is to reduce the size to 1024 x 683 (or whatever crop size I want for the image). After leveling and cropping, I then do all the necessary processing (contrast, color, shadow/highlights/etc). And like Brent, sharpening is the last thing I do before saving the image as a new jpg to be uploaded or printed.

Re: Adobe Photo Processing Question
I should clarify, nothing gets resized until I go to export it out of Lightroom.
Realize though, that any adjustments or sharpening done in LR is not actually done until the file is exported out. The stuff you see on the screen while working in LR is just a preview which means no pixels are harmed during the process.

Me too.
I do all the Bridge Adjustments to the CR2
Refine all the adjustments in PS5
Level , Crop, and a verry slight sharpen
Size to 1024 then Sharpen and done.
I have not messed with the DPI much, I just leave mine at like 240. I have changed some to 300 for Printing, But I dont print much.
Mark it Zero.
