Typical reply from RP.net "bad Cropping"

What's your opinion on this, RP says bad cropping, my whole intent was to get the water tower and tree overhang to frame in the photo, I shot this in Portrait mode(vertical).

Any suggestions ?

Yes...too tall. Crop to 4:5 and get rid of a lot of that useless foreground.

Why cant you learn? The vast majority of those of us that submit to RP do so for the fun of it and for the fact that pictures do get a lot of exposure on there. You can also get a lot of exposure on Flickr if you're contacts with the right people. We shoot for ourselves. If our shots happen to match up with RPs guidelines, awesome. If not, oh well. The original poster was not whining about RP, just looking for a bit of help.

RP has never been, nor will it ever be, the be all/end all of train photography.

If I had "screwed RP," I never would have gotten a cover shot on a mag with a readership of nearly 70 million people.

It's not Trains because Trains has a little less than 100,000 subscribers.....pretty good for a railroad magazine I suppose

RP is a decent place to become better known in railfan photography land... My photos there have brought in members to post here, so they aren't too bad. Plus I've sold a photo from there before as well.
