JPEG Vs. RAW
JPEG Vs. RAW
Does anyone shoot railroad photos primarily in RAW? Ive been shooting in JPEG, but I'm thinking of trying RAW on landscapes first to get the hang of stuff first.

80 - 90% of my pictures are shot in RAW now. I took some getting use to editting is still slower but overall quality of the pictures I think are better.

Another RAW shooter here. The ability to extract more detail out of the scene is great.

Re: JPEG Vs. RAW
I shoot both JPEG and RAW at the same time. Most, if not all, modern digital SLRs will do this. I then have the RAW file to edit to my heart's content, but also have the JPEG for quick emailing or posting or whatever. Yes, it takes up more memory to do this, but really, memory is pretty cheap these days. I have an 8GB card in my camera and it will hold hundreds of photos like this (about 300). I do shoot the JPEGs at a little lower quality and size to save some memory space.

In the 4+ years that I've been shooting trains with my digital cameras, I have never shot one in anything but raw mode. Before trains, I shot landscapes in raw mode which was a big benefit when it came to processing.GTW6401 wrote:Does anyone shoot railroad photos primarily in RAW?
