Euro Picture help

Unread post by PerRock »

I was digging around my pictures from my Europe trip and came across a good picture of an RE 460 in Switzerland, tweaked it a bit (mainly resized it) and submitted it. Needless to say it got rejected to RailPictures.net, so I thought I'd look to you guys for some help, I'm really not that great when it comes to picture editing.

They say it is to dark, however I fear if I lighten it the sky will be overexposed.

This is where you have to learn how to use some of the tools in photoshop to mask off the sky inorder to not blow it out.

There are some good youtube videos that someone posted in here about just that.

I'm not really sure how they can get away with calling that "Common Power"

Frank,

I think it would be more accurately translated that "you used to get drunk and get laid there while holding a snowboard".

Well you got nailed for it being a Cloudy Day shot and over there, Im guessing those are common. The Bad Cropping may have been more accurately stated, Bad composition. The pole that is touching the engine and blocking the first car is not good. You probabbly shold have waited till the engine was through the crossing a bit more.

The sky looks really blown out too. There are ways to fix that though. You should look up masking on the youtube videos, If you have photoshop that is. Not sure what you are using to edit.

I wish I had taken more photos in Germany during the 5 years I lived there, I also wish I had known how to use a camera then.

Focus on this part of the rejection:
Poor lighting (Cloudy): Common angle cloudy day shots
They don't have a rejection that states that without the "common/standard power" finishing the sentence, so they just use that one.

Also, there are 86 photos of the Re 460 on RP. Perhaps that is what makes it "common" to them.

Who said anything about SD40-2s? Image

Perhaps the scene/composition/whatever aren't strong enough to them to overcome the poor lighting. Not a big deal. Everyone has shots like that.

The sky and the pole I think will be the downfall as stated by Aaron.

Yes, Like Crow T said, The second one, HOWEVER, Do you have one Just like it but with the train about 3/4th of the way across the bridge. They will not like that one because the train isnt all the way out there. Dont get me wrong, They are nice shots, I just dont think its what RP is looking for.

As for you fist shot up top, The pole is going to kill it. You need to have the engine further out into the street and there is way to much sky up there. You may want to try a Horizontal crop. I like that shot to but I dont think it will make it on RP.

It's also a massive sin to cut the plume off in a steam shot. :D
