Getting the Railpictures Thing Down!
Getting the Railpictures Thing Down!
I was able to find a way to get four pictures accepted to railpictures within the last few days. That is not bad for me, considering I only have 11 pictures on RP. Here are my most recent ones

Looking good, but the first one should have been rejected for unlevel.bnsfben wrote:I was able to find a way to get four pictures accepted to railpictures within the last few days. That is not bad for me, considering I only have 11 pictures on RP. Here are my most recent ones

I never do 1024 by 683 but I do always do 1024 for horizontal or 1000 for vertical whatever the case may be. Don't understand why you don't size your photos as big as you can?
Nice stuff though!

1024 x 683 is the standard for 3:2 ratio (what the ratio is on most DSLRs), so it's only natural to reduce the size to that.MagnumForce wrote:I never do 1024 by 683 but I do always do 1024 or 100 whatever the case may be. Don't understand why you don't size your photos as big as you can?

Re: Getting the Railpictures Thing Down!
My ratio comes out to be 1024 x 768, which means a lot more in this digital age then in an analog world. A 3:2 (6"x4") or5:4 ( 8' x10") crop is also acceptable since that is standard in the analog world.
Regardless you are missing my point of using all that you are able to use, IE the maximum allowable width or height.

Some people go with a smaller image size to help hide poor image quality.MagnumForce wrote:My ratio comes out to be 1024 x 768, which means a lot more in this digital age then in an analog world. A 3:2 (6"x4") or5:4 ( 8' x10") crop is also acceptable since that is standard in the analog world.

I'm not missing ANY point. I was just pointing out what has been the standard, and continues to be the standard on RP.MagnumForce wrote:My ratio comes out to be 1024 x 768, which means a lot more in this digital age then in an analog world. Of course 3:2 is "also acceptable" because it is the STANDARD ratio for most DSLRs.
What camera are you using that has the same ratio as 1024 x 768?
Most of the time I frame a shot, it's in the 3:2 ratio. Sometimes I'll go with a 4:5 ratio when cropping, or 1024 x 768 when cropping and reducing. But most of the time I try to stay with the ratio I initially framed the shot for.

All I do is crop the picture the way I want it.

Part of getting the Railpics thing down is learning to crop the the correct size.
Stick to the 1024 x 683, Or Close to 683.
Mark it Zero.
Re: Getting the Railpictures Thing Down!
I stay in a rather large range. Anywhere from 1024x660 to 1024x730 usually works for me. I try my best to be between 1024x680 and 1024x700.JUST AARON wrote:bnsfben wrote:All I do is crop the picture the way I want it.

Not so JT... The picture is not unlevel because he is riding in an Amfleet Car which is tubular in shape so therefore the window will be curved inward.J T wrote:Looking good, but the first one should have been rejected for unlevel.bnsfben wrote:I was able to find a way to get four pictures accepted to railpictures within the last few days.
