Eastern Car Works Ballast Car

Postby TrainWatcher on Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:32 am

I thought I'd ask around here and see if anyone here would happen to have an Eastern Car Works or E&B Valley Ballast Car kit around. With ECW being out of business its hard to locate a pair of sides that need to be replaced.

Not sure which car you're talking about, but working in styrene isn't that hard. Build your own if you *have* to.

I did an entire CP SD40-2F out of styrene once. Then Kaslo made their kit about 3 months afterwards...

I did it as contract work back in like 2001 or 2002. Not sure what the owner did with it. IIRC, Details West Canadian Cab, SD60 walkways and frame. Styrene Sides, and Cannon and CO doors.

The one on the bottom Russ.

I would cast new sides, had I not destroyed the sides trying to cast them originally as I wanted to make a small fleet of them ;) And Yea, I could prolly fashion the 70 ton sides out of styrene, but I also ruined the car ends too when I went to cast the parts, so those would need to be hand made as well. Upon looking around, maybe a Bowser 2 bay hopper kit might get me closer to the old Eastern Car sides and ends and those are readily available. Just surprised no one has one lying around or has some spare parts at any of the online retailers.
