This topic at ModelRailroad Forums has some nice ideas in pictures. Check out the Lower Laker and blast furnace in the steel mill. Very cool.

Nice layout. What are you laying the track on looks like styrofoam(sp) bricks?

looks like pieces of 2" styrofoam I've used it quite a bit nice and easy to work with but not very forgiving to an ill placed hand or foot.


this is what we used to call "Track Happy" so much track no room for scenery

Yes, it is 2'' styrofoam sheets, you can find it at nearly every lumber yard. I think that it comes in 4' x 4' and 4' x 8' sheets. It is good for sculpting with a Hot Blade. Looks like quite a large layout, I hope they post follow-up pics soon :D

Actually that's not my layout. I liked all the "how to" pictures so I posted it over here. I'm very impressed with that melting pot for the steel mill.
