FEC Panhandle Sub West End

Finally made an update on the new layout yesterday. Also shows a couple of locomotives I've been working on.

Nice start you got there, I like the use of sidings even on a small layout. It's hard to run more then one train without them. I am wondering about that lift bridge, with the tracks curving was it more difficult to get them to line up and cooperate? Getting my single track hundred bridge to line up correct was a challenge at first, I would imagine 2-3 tracks curving would be even more "fun". Street running should be neat along with the beach scene. Looking forward to more!

First we see FEC 220 rolling down the street running Cottondale, where it will terminate at the yard. It is taking the siding, and 131 will meet it shortly.

Today's 220 was an interesting train. It was assigned the two SD70s but the only freight was the one boxcar that is seen on the head end. 25 minutes before it was scheduled to leave Jacksonville, NS rolled into Bowden with a grain train for the Cottondale elevator, which would have become train 242. Instead of running two trains, FEC decided to put the grain cars onto the back of 220, and they departed Jacksonville 30 minutes late and headed west. The NS power, 2 C44-9Ws, was sent back to NS in Jacksonville.

FEC 131 was also interesting today. A mistake was made when loading 129, and a trailer was forgotten, so a refund was given to the customer and the trailer was loaded and put on FEC 131 for Jacksonville so it would not have to wait until tomorrow's 129.

FEC decided to only run one train tonight, 141, by combining trains 119 and 143. This led to an awesome FEC - FEC - NS - CofG consist. Downtown Cottondale, FL exiting the yard.

Set up for some shots this morning. Lots has been done, green paint to go under the ground foam, and some ballasting has been done at Cottondale.

Lift-out/Dropdown/Duckunder?

Unread post by beachbum »

It looks like you have a lift-out to access the inside of the donut. Could you post some closeups of your benchwork? I've expanded my U to a donut and while I'm still limber enough to duck under, I imagine I'll put in a lift-out or similar eventually. Thanks!

It's been a while since I posted here, but today I've been working on scenery just east of downtown Cottondale.

The backdrop is just temporary, needed something to make it where I wouldn't have the brown walls of the train room in the picture.

Since I always forget I have this thread and never post anything here, I'll put a link to the Facebook page below, I normally post an update there every couple weeks when I'm home from college so it's worth watching.
