Digitrax SDH164D

Unread post by legostudios34 »

What is the "Generic diesel sound" recorded from? I'd like to put it in my MTH SD70M-2 but I dont want it to sound ridiculous.

Also, could I use the Digitrax 9 Pin to 8 Pin harness converter in it to make the installation simple?

Short story: it will sound ridiculous. In my opinion it sounds like a UFO underwater or something. Save your pennies for a Soundtraxx Tsunami, they're well worth it.

If you get the plug in type of Tsunami then yes, you could use a 9 pin to 8 pin plug adapter.

The "Generic Diesel" sound profile in the SDH164D is from a SD38 (a normally aspirated 645 prime mover).

You'd be much happier with a decoder with the correct sounds for a turbocharged 710 prime mover. SD80MAC is absolutely right-- the Soundtraxx Tsunami is worth every penny of its higher price for this installation.

Alright, I'll wait until I have enough money for a Tsunami. I got the SD70 for a good price, and even after paying for the Tsunami I'd still be under retail for a Standard DC Unit.

You can get Tsunamis for around 80-100 per decoder. Keep in mind you'll need to speed match it with other engines as Tsunamis tend to run fairly fast
