Many more are still stored at Markham as well along with more than a dozen at Clearing.

Haven't seen any in Clearing. There were a lot of HLCX/CITX units there but those seemed to disappear. There was a whole track of them, maybe they were mixed in there somewhere.

IIRC they just sent a bunch of HLCX units out of the Belt to the NS at Altoona, so they may be gone now.

Unfortunatly, both GTW SD40-2s, 5936 and 5937 were in the deadline as of yesterday. DM&IR SD-M 316 has been donated to the Lake Superior Railway Museum (LSRM) in Duluth and will be used on the museum's North Shore Scenic excursions. It is fully intact except for the horn and rear numberboards, which will be recovered from CN in the near future. The deadlines are also filling up with SD50Fs and SW14s. Even IC 6130 and two of the 6000 series SD40-2Rs are in the same deadline as the GTW SD40-2s, all three in deathstar paint. There was also a Alco in CP red in the deadline, probably from the Ottawa Central which CN purchased last month.

WHAT! They stored IC 6071? How dare CN does that! What I am hoping is CN is storing these engines due to the weak economy, and when service picks back up CN puts them back in service. I hope this isn;t the beginning of the end for SD40-2s on CN.

I think the economy and the holiday season does have something to do with it. I've seen a few reports of other railroads storing power. You also have to look at the furloughs that are occuring on various railroads right now. If they don't need as many crews, they aren't running as many trains and if they aren't running as many trains, they probably don't need as many engines.

That's exactly what I think, I can't see CN retiring perfectly good SD40-2s, and I haven't heard any plans to strike the IC or GTW SD40-2s from the roster yet, especially since they are retiring the SD50Fs. CN has also halted the retiring of DM&IR power for now, 212 was actually fixed at Homewood and returned to service following a oil leak, and 213 was involved in a collision but fixed at Proctor. I don't think CN has much new power on order for now either, so I think retirements are going to slow down for now.

Of course the big news on CN now is the approval of the EJ&E purchase, however, there is some big news on the retirements. CN has retired all the Alcos from the newly purchased Ottawa Central and NBEC already. They are all at or on the way to Homewood. Here is Ottawa Central 1865 at Homewood today with GTW 5936. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=1436139

It hardly surprizes me that the MLWs are already finished due to who built them.

There is some good news, scrapping at Homewood seems to have been put on hold due to the crash in scrap prices. This fares well for any OCRR, NBEC, BCOL and DMIR engines at Homewood.

I know WC 3026 was still operating last week, it was idling in front of the locomotive shops at Homewood. It's too bad CN is even starting to put the WC fleet into storage now.

Does anyone have a updated list of the engines stored at Homewood? There are far more IC SD40-2s stored than what the list said, and some of the ICs that were reported at Memphis are now stored at Homewood. I went by Homewood today and there are dozens and dozens of IC SD40-2s in both CN and IC paint stored. Also of note was that WC 3026 hasn't moved since Christmas and was coupled to a dead CN SD50F, so there is a good chance 3026 is stored. There was another WC GP40 but I don't know if it is stored or waiting for shop time. Alco, there was a line with three IC SD40-2s and WC 6004, so there is a good chance all four of those are stored now also. Also I've heard that WC 6006 was in Memphis but again I don't know if it is waiting for shop time or stored.

I'll make this easy -

of the GTW group 5930-5956, only 3 are not stored serviceable, 5940 which is at
NRE Dixmoor; and 5938 & 5951 which are on BNSF repaying HPHours. But instead of
staying in the Dubuque IA area on a shuttle, they both went to Mexico just
before the holidays. They were actually across that border for 24 hours !

In the IC 6000/6100/6200 groups, there are 62 stored; at least 25 of those or
more, are listed heavy bad order.

On the Bessemer, there are 3 900's for the only road train; 4 SD38 models for
the lime and dock runs; 903 and 909 arent on the property. All others stored at
Greenville.

Also rumoured to be stored are WC 3012, 3026, 3027 and possibly 2, 3 others.

The 5 SD50's sold to DMVW from November's auction are waybilled as the CN
numbers but as DMVW, to Bismarck ND via CPR. Does not appear that they moved
yet.

CP 5673 should be showing up on CN in Toronto someday soon, from Edmonton; its
sold to Larrys in McDonald OH.
