Looks like CN's got a competitor in their Pacific Coast-Detroit intermodal business.

Would this intermodal freight end up traveling from Chicago to Oak Yard?

Sure sounds like it. Oak Yard is their only intermodal terminal in Detroit that I know of, so it should definitely be going there. And it says that this new business is traveling across the border at Portal, ND, so it's definitely going via Chicago.

Just thought some may find this interesting. Nothing to do that I know of with CSX...just interesting.

Will operate via CSX through North Baltimore. Trains Q150 Q151 Q165 Q166 being involved till business requires its own train. This info from a CSX employee at Jacksonville.

CN has dominated this lane since opening its dock near Vancouver .

Sadly this service will third rate on the NS line and wait and wait as NS traffic improves and gets more congested. Just think they could probably run through Michigan without hitting a single siding. Probably could run up to four per day using that route.

Now I'm confused. In the other thread on this subject, someone stated that CSX trains will be bringing in the intermodal cars? How will the cars get from CP to CSX?

I guess the run through CP intermodals, 142 (Q166) and 143 (Q165), work North Baltimore, OH at the huge CSX intermodal facility while they're on their way down the CSX main line between Chicago and Buffalo. CSX intermodals Q150 and Q151 handle the intermodal to Oak Yard, as they already run between North Baltimore and Detroit, and Oak Yard is enroute.

It would be nice to see the CP use CSX again, and if the two intermodals handling this traffic ran via GR, the two trains would have direct access to Oak Yard themselves and could just bypass the whole North Baltimore interchange thing. It's not without its down sides unfortunately, as any CP train running on that CSX line would have to run on the same NS Chicago Line west of Porter. It is a much shorter portion, but probably one of the more congested parts of the line. Plus, they would have container size restrictions once again thanks to the antiquated Detroit River Tunnel, which they don't have to worry about when running via Buffalo.

Q150 and Q151 run to/from Livernois in Detroit not Oak Yard unless something has changed very recently

Maybe when they run via Plymouth instead of the Lincoln Secondary they sometimes stop at Oak Yard on the way?

That's what I was thinking. They just stop at Oak Yard which would be on the way, and they make a drop off/pick up.

There has been a change. When departing Livernois yard , the CSX disp will ask/inform them about work at "Oak". Been going on for awhile though.
