Railroadfan.com Fall Meet 2016

Unread post by ~Z~ »

So, the original idea is a bust. Was planning on setting the meeting in Bellevue OH for the RailFest 2016 meetup at the Mad River & NKP Museum on Aug 20th, having an earlier than usual 2nd meet for the site, but work plans have me traveling that weekend instead.

I don't know if there will be a meet in Sept or Oct yet, but if enough people want to get together, feel free to try to make a date and pick a place to meet in a poll. My weekends in the fall are a bit tied up at the moment, so can't commit yet to being able to make a meet then.

I am planning on attending Summerail in Marion OH on August 13th. Going to that event from 1pm-10pm, then heading up to Deshler to camp. Hang for a few hours in the morning in Deshler before heading west. Sounds like some from the board will be there; looking forward to this event.
Site with information to purchase Summerail tickets if anyone is interested: http://www.summerail.com/

Sorry to see you'll be traveling instead that weekend, Z, but it also sounds like a great time to finally have a meet in Rochelle. :D

Rochelle is over rated. My dad said I can go to this next meet. If its Rochelle I will not go that far.

I vote for Rochelle. Let's go west for a change!

Hmm... I wonder why it seems further.

Are there any places closer to Chicago where we can see freight and passenger trains with both being in good quantities?

Probably because it's not really a straight shot and Chicagoland traffic can be a major PITA.

You could try Homewood, but I'm not sure how great the quantity of either would be.

Will not be able to attend most likely.

If Rochelle is thrown into the picture, might I suggest West Chicago? Same Geneva Subdivison, but crosses the CN Leithton Sub which is a little more entertaining than the Aurora Sub in terms of freight traffic. Metra runs through as well.

And both are quiet zones.
