GDLK Otsego Branch Q

Unread post by GP30M4216 »

What GDLK job switches out the USG mill in Otsego? When do they operate, and how many days a week do they get service?

Is the 303 job still the regular road freight from Kzoo to Hughart and back? Are they still running during the day or has their schedule gone back to nights?

Thanks for any help!

The Kalamazoo-Grand Rapids road freight 303 usually switches the mill in Otsego on their way back south from GR.

I had the opportunity to scope out the Otsego Branch today, briefly. Crisscrossed it over several crossings, there are some good photo opts along the way. Surprised to see it's all welded rail - and is in very good shape. 7 hi-cube boxcars were on the spur at USG. Do they get a daily switch by 303?

Also, in other Allegan County end-of-branchline news, about 8-9 covered hoppers spied at CHS in Hamilton at the end of the Hamilton Industrial Branch.

I would've loved to have gone back to the 40's to see Allegan with all three lines intact. The DT&M, C&O and NYC had to have been interesting back in the day. Anyone know anything about what used to happen back in the day in Allegan? So much has been lost to time it seems.
