Amtrak 90208, a third Veterans Unit

Unread post by Ypsi »

Amtrak added a third vets unit to its fleet, looks like this one will be out west as it has gone out via the SW chief to LA.

I think the red roof is a bit much, however I do like the way the unit looks

I actually don't mind the red roof at all. They clearly did a lot of metal work to this unit to smooth out the carbody sides. I think it looks great, especially considering how used and abused it looked for the past few years in Cali:

Oh, and here's a photo of it back in it's powered days, when I saw it with my mom in Dearborn back when I was a youngster!

Painting this F40 Cab makes sense. They have a Veterans electric for the NEC, a P42 to travel the system/long distance, and now this unit to travel the west coast.

In other F40 Cab news, it looks like 90229 was outshopped in regular Phase V earlier this year after sitting idle for some time. Good to see Amtrak still investing in the F40 "image" nearly 40 years after the design debuted!
