BEING FROM CHICAGO ,I LOVED RIDING THE L.
THE CITY HAS CHANGED SINCE I WAS BORN THERE [2-9-46] AND I ALWAYS WANTED TO GO BACK AND RIDE ALL THE LINES AS I DID MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS.
WELL - I CAN NOW DO IT ON MY COMPUTER AS I DRINK A YUENGLING IN MY HOME.
THE CTA HAS HI-DEF VIDS OF ALL THE LINES AND I HAVE WATCHED THEM ALL. NOW IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER YUENGLING AND ANOTHER RIDE ON THE BROWN LINE.

The enjoyment of rides like this is partly why my museum in Connecticut offers its Guest Operator program: The Shore Line Trolley Museum gives people the chance to operate a trolley car or rapid transit car on piloted trips down out historic suburban streetcar line. We are one of very few museums in the United States that has operable rapid transit equipment for the public to ride. True, it's only a mile and a half and yes, it's not on an elevated structure, but it does pass through scenic Connecticut scenery near Long Island Sound (aka, not in a subway tube). In addition to traditional streetcars, we have a fleet of mostly NYC rapid transit cars, including elevated equipment. Three three currently-operable rapid transit cars are some of the most popular to run: IRT Lo-V 5466 (1924), IND R-9 1689 (1940) and NYCTA R-17 Redbird 6688 (1955). It's not the Loop but it's still awesome!!

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.

Pretty cool videos! I think it was one of the green line ones that shows the el train "racing" a UP train.

That was pretty sweet there Pat C.
Thanks for sharing.
If your a gamer and have played any of the Infamous games on the Play Station Consoles there has been an elevated railway in a few of the games. I would spend hours riding the top of the train to get from one side of the city to the other or to just kill time by blasting creepers as you sped by. Never was quite sure what elevated system they used as the basis for it but I liked to think of it as being based on the Chicago L.

That would be the Green Line as it nears Oak Park. Another highlight of that line is the "Bridge to Nowhere" that is now used as a signal bridge of all things.atrainguy60 wrote:Pretty cool videos! I think it was one of the green line ones that shows the el train "racing" a UP train.
The better representation of the L is in the game Watch Dogs. It is set in Chicago and feature a really good representation of the Loop. Check it out if you get a second. Special note: The sound of the "L" starting up in that game is actually an EMD engine starting up.SousaKerry wrote:That was pretty sweet there Pat C.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.
And here's another interesting thing, two actually: in the actual-speed Orange Line video, you pass a high-hood NS EMD heading into the Loop and then, heading back to Midway, you pass an intermodal train led by a patched BN EMD with the second unit also in BN paint, but with the BNSF logo actually placed on the sides where the BN logo and name are supposed to be.
