Iowa Pacific purchases Illinois Central E units from CN
According to Trains Mag, Iowa Pacific Holdings have bought the ex IC E Units that CN had retired earlier in the year because they considered them surplus. This move sorta surprises me but at the same time it doesn't. Way to go to IOWA PACIFIC for keeping our Railroad History alive.

Good! With Mr. Ellis' love for IC, I hope these girls stay in the gray scheme.

IIRC CN rebuilt/refurbished/overhauled them recently so I was surprised they retired them so quickly.

You are thinking of 103 and 104, which are now in the CN green/gold colors. 101 and 102 were rebuilt by the IC in the early 90's (?) and haven't had any major work since, to my knowledge.AARR wrote:IIRC CN rebuilt/refurbished/overhauled them recently so I was surprised they retired them so quickly.

I hope they don't get repainted. That paint scheme is by far one of my favorites. If the IC had kept going on its own I would've loved to see their freight power get that paint. They could've had their own version of executive SD70MAC's like the BN.

Now, IC E9A units #100 and 101 were definitely sold to Iowa Pacific!!!!

They should have painted them brown and orange in the original IC colors. Then they could have had Willie Nelson sing City of New Orleans at the unveiling.
