We were waiting for you to say that. You didn't disappoint.
May I ask why?
Only because when the C&O Sticker Unit was on the retirement list, we were betting you would be the first one to comment on it.
Wow that was dumb. I was actually hoping for something that wasn't a waste of time on your part.

I didn't see it in here so here goes:

The group of preproduction SD70ACe's that everybody derides all the time have been retired and sold to Progress Rail. Units were already shipped to Mayfield.

Indeed, we'd heard it but have yet to confirm it. Do you have a firm source? (PM if necessary)

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 Jan 2018

Welcome to 2018! For this beginning-of-year update, covering changes we were able to find and confirm in December, we’ve got the largest raft of retirements we’ve ever reported at once, at nearly 200! We’ve been able to confirm the remainder of the 7300 series and all of the SD70AEs as gone. Additionally, we’ve learned that SD60s of all three variants are beginning to be retired, with plans to wipe the whole fleet soon – so any out there still running are on borrowed time – at least as CSX power.

Therefore in this update we’ll cover the retirements of the 7300s, the SD70AEs, and the SD60/I/Ms. Yes, while the SD60s are not yet all gone, our numbers will reflect this change as one move now, since tracking them each individually just isn’t feasible. Note that the SD70AEs are confirmed as going back to Progress, and the GEs are going to Larry’s Truck, in some sort of deal with GE for what to do with them next. Some are showing up as GECX lease units, but note that LTE/GE have amassed hundreds of C40-8s and C40-8Ws from CSX, UP and NS, with more on the way – potentially the rest of CSX’s Dash8s could serve their last miles in 2018.

Also one SW1500, the 1105, which was previously used as a training unit at the REDI center in Georgia, has been retired off the roster and sent via sale or lease to the Lehigh Valley Railroad.

Wouldn't surprise me if Caterpillar takes those ACE's back to try and fix the bugs at some point. Could be an easy way for them to make some money on units that are still being made today.

 Man, now all the "Widecab" ex Conrail® locos are being sold!!!! No!!!! I like these engines because most retain their "Red Marker Lights!!!!" NS "Removed" all of them!
The question is: how many
ex CR locos on CSX still retain "Classification/Marker Lights?" :?:

Saw 8729 on the point of Q 327 on Monday 1-9-18. They might be on the chopping block
but they have to captured first.

Anyone who's worked for CSX will tell you they hate the former Conrail locomotives.

The railroad doesn't base their decisions on what railfans want.

They are pre-production so by definition the bugs are built right in. I don’t think they are really worth making run truly correctly at this point. They are old.

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 Feb 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! We’ve got another raft of retirements, centered around the Gensets and Dash8 fleets. Read on and enjoy this comprehensive update!

A factoid to note: this month we dropped below 50% YN3 on the roster, with enough YN3 retirements to reduce it from the majority to just a plurality.

We are still tracking the SD60 retirements we "announced" last month. We are probably going to be rolling back those that haven't left the roster at the end of March. We're pretty confident that only about two dozen will be meeting their retirement in the short term here. We apologize for announcing them too soon, but with how things are working inside CSX these days, it is quite likely that they were in fact all due to go but then they decided not to mid-stroke. We'll keep updating this issue to its resolution, as you'd expect from this page!

Since this update, we found out today, that all the CW60ACs except for the 5016 have been retired.

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 Apr 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This a combined update of February and March, covering all changes since our last report dated 01 February.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

This month is full of retirements, from the class-wide retirements of Dash8s to here-and-there retirement of sold-off or heavy-bad-order units. We’re also quite pleased with the CW44AC repaints, which seem to be accelerating after faltering late last year – a good sign of fleet renewal.

Looking ahead, we anticipate most if not all Dash8s to be retired in the next few months. Word on the street is that the Dash9s, some SD70ACs, the SD50-2s and more selective shop queen retirements could hit over the next few months.

We’re still tracking the SD60 fleet, which we’ve retired all of but many still remain active. We’ve been tracking the situation in other posts, but thus far, 21 have been retired leaving 69 whose retirement has not yet be consummated. However it sounds like those retirements will be proceeding at some point in the near future, with ACSES-equipped SD40-2s reportedly getting their pilots cut for the 3rd-rail service around NYC currently held down by a subset of the SD60 fleet.

Any questions? Comment below!

Whats so special about the 5016?

Didn't all of the former AC6000's have Gevo engines put in them to at least get them to Tier 2 standards?

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 May 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 April, through 01 May.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

This month our greatest change is the wholesale retirement of the CW60AC fleet, which had recently been downrated to class CW46AC or CW46AH, taking them down to 4400hp. All of them are gone, reportedly to Progress Rail. We also uncovered some SD50-2 and SD70M retirements, along with another handful of C40-8Ws.

The 9993 was also released from a massive rebuild, wherein it was lengthened and given a new coat of YN3B. We don’t think it has been reclassified to anything other than F40PH-2, but will advise if we find out otherwise. Note that this counts as a full-up rebuild anyways, so it’ll be listed as a 2018 build by the rebuilder, instead of 1999 by CSX, which was then based on the previous rebuild.

Any questions? Comment below!
